So my tax code changed in August to the new 1256l code. Shouldn't this have happened in may?

What were you on before this change, was it a T code or something?

As 1256L is now the standard code for the 19/20 year with what I assume is the uniform allowance on it.

Doesn't really matter that much as due to the cumulative nature of tax, it will still work out correctly over the year

Could be you were on a Basic rate code for some reason?

Was on 1185l before. Just confused me due to the month it changed. If it was in may I wouldn't question it but August!?

That is a little odd. Has anything changed in your non-salary benefits? It sounds like there was a deduction in place previously and this has been removed.

For instance with me. My tax code also changed in August, this was due to my health insurance benefit changing and so my tax code changed accordingly to recover the taxable benefit.

Slack payroll dept :p

You are right, nearly, in that yes it should have changed in April

But like I said, it won't make any difference overall

It doesn't sound like it since 1185L is the standard code for 18/19 and 1250L is the standard for 19/20, apart from the extra 6 of the uniform allowance, there doesn't look to be any in work benefits affecting his code.

If it was 1185L in Mar this year it should have just automatically gone to 1250L in Apr

Yeah slack was what I was worried about. Worry is over paid tax from may-august?

This was how I thought it would have worked
