I received my pay slip yesterday and had a small pay rise (£864) and my tax code for last year was 476L. Now this is where it gets strange. My tax code has changed to 944L and my tax has gone down from 534 a month to 469.20 a month which is a reduction of 65 pounds.

This all seems to be wrong as I have got a pay rise and a tax is reduced? I will speak to payroll on Monday. Am I lucky enough for the above to be correct or have they made an error?

Same for me, I think due to the new financal year things have changed, so some people/everyone? Has had a mini payrise? Not sure of the case though, hopefully someone else knows about it and can explain. :)

My tax code is also 944L now, instead of 810L.

Well 944 is the tax code that everyone should get, unless you have any extra's such as company car or bonuses. 476 sounds completely wrong unless as I say you had bonuses or a huge error in your tax from the previous year.

If you just get a standard wage and there haven't been any errors in previous years your tax code last year should have been 810L therefore you have massively overpaid tax and should be due a refund.

The tax codes changed / tax free allowance changed this year. The secretary at my work told me I'd be taking more home :) so its not just you.

The basic personal allowance has gone up so you can earn more before paying tax.

My Tax code increased as well.

I could be wrong but if you multiply the number in your tax code by ten, you will get the total amount of income you can earn in a year before paying tax, so it looks like you were paying tax after earning £4760 instead of £8100.

Obviously I don't know all the circumstances of your job and wage etc but you could be owed some money.

That is correct. You have had an increase in your tax free pay from £4760 to £9440, so even with your pay rise you will pay less tax.

Why you were on such a low code of 476L last year and why you are now on the full allowance of 944L, we can't answer with the information provided.

I just got my payslip, its showing 444L, ive paid a ridiculous amount of tax, will be calling those retards at HMRC tomorrow, here is for a 20 minute + wait.

Not fit for purpose.

Apparantly I owe the tax man about £150 or so from last year when I changed jobs so mine went from 810L to 846L (Or 864L - something like that) so won't reap the full benefits until next years tax code change!

I'll be about 35 up a month due to the change, score!

Seems high.

The increase from £8,105 to £9,440 gives you an extra £22 odd a month for a basic rate taxpayer.

Higher rate taxpayers won't see that much due to the reduction in the amount before they start paying 40%.
