Howdy,

I have been overcharged on my tax for the past 13 months, of approximately £110 a month due to tax code BR. this will be sorted from April onwards, any idea when i will get my rebate? is it when they feel like it?

Thanks

Alex.

£1430 nice, i got about a £1000 once, blew it all in one go as well!

I got mine the next month after it was sorted, so its looking good for april if not then may.

Is there not a form to fill out?

I need to claim back an overpayment of tax from when I worked in Novermber-December before uni.

I think its an R38 form?? -I was under the impression they didn't do it automatically?

How do you find out if they owe you anything? im saying this because this month (end of march pay) i was charged too much tax apparently because i didnt make up my personal allowance during a job switch over.

I want to know if i got a nice big rebate or not:confused::confused: whats the easiest way to find out?

I've always recd refunds quite quickly (10 days) - but these were as result of tax returns being filed.

Your overpayment spans 2 tax years so maybe you'll need to put in a return for the earliest portion at least - be aware that although you get fined for late submission this is generally waived when they owe you money and they pay you interest too. So I'd call (or pop into) your local tax office and ask them for some advice - they are often very helpfull but occasionally rather the opposite.

All you need to do is write to them with a copy P60 or last payslip for the years in question and you will either get a cheque back or they will increase your tax allowance accordingly.

They won't automatically sort the tax code - but you'll only be on BR as you used to have two jobs/pension, or didn't fill out a P46. But if you ring them with your emplyers PAYE ref number and say it is your only job now they usually send a notification within a few days.

Would like to know the form also :s

There isn't one unless you self assess. A short letter is enough.

Currently awaiting a rebate at the moment as we've found an issue with the way they have been taxing our medical benefits at work, (it's been effectively taxed twice since 2002/2003). Fortunately they've investigated it with the company and admitted they were wrong so it was just a case of sending them a letter with some reference numbers on it, although I do now need to send them a couple of P60's as it's affected some other calculations which also means I've paid to much.

It's unlikely to be very much but every little bit helps ;)

Yes, anything during the last tax year will be refunded through your wages as soon as your employer switch you to the correct tax code. So in other words you'll get something like an extra £1300 in your next pay packet if you do it get it sorted quickly enough (you might have left it too late for it to fall in this year though)

I did this last year, I think I got it all back in either my March or April payslip, I'll have to check.

Anything outside the last tax year you need to claim seperately.

I've got the P50 form to fill in for my tax rebate as i've stopped working now. Not sure if anybody will know the answer to this. But I take it they don't just work out your tax rebate from the P45 you give them? As the job I had before is where i'm due the tax back. So do they look at the whole tax year or will I have to point this out to them?

Mine was caused due to my previous employer not giving me a p45 I filled out a p60 and got a letter in dec/jan stating from april I will be on a new tax code (was on br for all last year)

Since last April, until about 2 months ago, I had earned probably not more then £2k in wages(average £300 a month); was taxed nothing.

Last month I got a full time job, and as I couldnt get my P45 from previous part time place, I was put on code 603L i think?

Anyway recieved about £750 at the end of feb which was for the 2 weeks I had worked - and this was not taxed.

Just seen payment today for the month and its for £1128, which means I've been taxed about £300, when I really shouldnt have...as I havent gone past the non taxable amount for the year..i think its £6k? Ive probably earnt about £3.5k max including this payment.

So...what exactly do i need to do to get this £300 back asap? Just fill out form posted above along with P45's from previous and current job? I know nothing about taxes...first time getting taxed in my life now :p

Thanks to Obama my fiance' is not paying any taxes from last year and able to claim the whole lot back :D (she is full time and earns decent money)
