Hi all,

Has anyone come across a problem where trying to amend TCP IP properties in a dial up connection cannot be done as the properties button is greyed out?

The account logged in is local admin, have tried creating a new connection to no avail.

this is on a remote persons machine so i don't want ot have to re-install TCP/IP, can only assume its a local policy or a registry update that should free it up.. just not too sure where to look??

Sorry to put up such a heavy first post.. ;)

is this pc on a domain or workgroup, if the former it may be a policy set by the IT admins, if a workgroup start > run > gpedit.msc is where group policy is located

what about if you re-create the dial-up connection is it still greyed out?

yup...

will have a look in the local policies.. should be ok really, has been moved on to a new domain recently, the domain admin account doesn't have the access to change it...

cheers for the gpedit bit, will fish around for a fix in there!

im 100 sure the domain policy will always overwrite the local policy so if its on a domain it wont make any effect. May be going against company regs mind you so id check first if they are ok with you trying to change it :)

We have this problem on one of the server at work.

Network connections still work, but the properties tab for all network connections on that domain controller is greyed out.

Nothing to do with policies at our end, so we've just had to deal with it (can change all of the settings in the registry anyway)

There is a MS solution to this, but if you are going to do it, its so long you may as well rebuild the server!!

Mal :)

yep you're right domain policy will overwrite any changes made locally, ive been try to workaround our company network policies for a while now but i also have my own network at home and have been messing around with domain and group policies and its strong stuff ;)
