Teachers should be respected more by kids?

Kids should also be able to use the toilet when they need to.

They should go at breaktime and lunchtime, I never let them go during class.

Do people think it is wrong I don't let children go to the toilet during lessons?
Still no need for the language or disrespect teachers get.

Your boss also probably doesn't need to stop everyone else working every time someone needs to go to the toilet...

I get that when you gotta go you gotta go, but on the other hand, can you imagine how difficult it is trying to explain something to the class when you have to stop every 2 minutes and wait for 20 odd kids to go to the toilet?

No you shouldn't have to tolerate that behaviour, and I'm pretty sure spitting on someone is technically classed as assault (purely based on watching various police camera action type shows:p).

The problem is, as others have posted, you're often fighting a losing battle trying to undo what the scummy parents have spent the last X years teaching them :(

So right once one goes they all want to go. Easier to say no, girls on periods and children with medical problems should bring a letter.

I agree it is down to parents

I have never had a child have an accident or a parent complain in 3 years about my policy.

A few weeks ago one girl said her dad was going to come and beat the **** out of me for making her stand up for the entire afternoon. She had been swinging on her chair.

As a parent I am not going to write a note to let teachers know my daughter is on her period. That is pretty much a private matter for her. In class I have no desire to ask a girl if she is on her period, as a teacher I have no need to know. Therefore if a student asks to go to the toilet I normally ask "Can you wait until break?" if they say no, then I let them go. If a child spat on me they would be out of the lesson very quickly and have at least a day at home and I would expect an apology before I let them in my class again.

They know my policy. If they need permission to go during lesson time being a letter. This letter does not have to state the reason just they would like their son/daughter to use the loo when needed.

So you could be expecting a child to go over two hours without going to the toilet. Especially first period as they may have had a walk to school without an opportunity to go. They might be Y6 but they are still kids.

You also want every girl on her period to bring in a note from their parents? What justification is there for that invasion of privacy, especially as you are dealing with girls that may just be starting their period?

They should go when they get to school if they need to,in preparation for the morning lessons

Yes, because it is unnecessary. There should be opportunities for a child to go in those two hours that won't disrupt learning much at all. What do you think you are achieving by making them wait? Do you think you are teaching them self control or just teaching them to resent you?

That next time I better wee on my own time or Miss won't let me go and I will have to wait. They should go at break and if they forget tough.

We as teachers wait don't we? The children get enough breaks.

Is that really something that someone who is a professional should be instilling in children? It sounds incredibly petty and all it is likely to do is breed resentment.

So planning and learning that there are consequences should not be something that is instilled in children.

The loos are next to my class so they can go on the way in if they have forgotten.

So all those saying I am wrong

What if left 2 minutes after a breaktime because I needed the toilet? Would you find that acceptable?

I would be told the children are my priority and need to manage time better.

Providing the students are not left unattended that isn't an issue, considering that it could potentially be your duty to monitor the children during their breaks anyway it may be the only chance you get.

This must be a troll though, as it pains me to think someone who lacks such basic common sense and an ability to simply think can be an educator..

Precisely there are times as a teacher where it is impossible to get to a loo, so children should be able to manage a couple of hours if they go at break or at least try.

What if they don't want to inform you? or the child is insecure because of it?

Also making a child stand up all afternoon because they were swinging on their chair... that's a bit strong and I am not surprised they said they'll get their father to do what they said they would do.

Some may class that as child abuse. I know if you did that to my child for swinging on a chair I would certainly be having words.

You also are probably a troll.

I had told her not to swing three times.

You also are probably a troll simple for the fact why would a female come to a PC enthusiast forum and start whining about this?

Standing up for the afternoon or cracking her head open. Which would you prefer? I'm guessing if the former happened I would be slated for not acting on the child's behaviour and how dangerous it is.
