Team 10 doing rather well

I've just been having a bit of a rummage around among the EOC stats and have come to the conclusion that we are doing rather well.

I was initially looking to see how far up the 24hr average ranks my recent, SMP inspired, rise in output had got me. I was surprised to see that I am 63rd in the rankings. If my output reaches the level I expect it to (8,500-9,000), OcUK will have 3 team members in the top 50 world producers.

Only 4 other teams can boast this or better:

www.overclockers.com = 7 from 634 active members.
Overclockers Australia = 3 from 930 active members.
[H]ardOCP = 3 from 1,153 active members.
Maximum PC Magazine = 3 from 1,041 active members.

Considering we are only 36th in terms of active members with 124, the fact that we could have 3 members in the top 50 producers is quite astonishing - also the fact that we are 14th in the team 24hr average list is also remarkable.

I think we all deserve a jolly good pat on the back :)

Also, I should reach the top 1,000 in total output sometime tomorrow

Stan :)

Here, here! Team 10 shouldn't be taken lightly, that's for sure. We just need some more members and then we can do some serious damage.

Congrats on your SMPage, as well. It's certainly given you quite a boost!

Good report, thanks Stan

As 'nother says we could do with numbers now. The average ppd of 820 is amazing and reflects the "quality not quantity" aspect. To really compete we need more. SMP or otherwise.

Who is inpharm of CustomPC?! 148k ppd?! Comparable to everybody not affiliated with a team!

Absolutely, i'd say we have one of the highest average work per user scores.

Some users such as yourself deserve this more than others such as me, so well done on a fantastic output and a massive contribution to the team. Same goes for all those with outputs in the red, well done and thanks. :)

That's always been our problem, that and we aren't as good as we could be at retaining users, we tend to get 2 or 3 new users a week and loose 2 or 3 a week.

This is a big forum, there is definitely scope to increase active users enormously. If you look at the amount of people who participated in seti, i think a lot less overall are participating in dc projects now than before, yet the forum user base has grown.

The folding competition should help us a lot, and its all ready to go except prizes, which we'll sort soon.
Other than that i'd like to see another gd thread in the style of the 'help ocuk beat some Russians' thread, problem is there aren't any teams with a similar output anywhere near us... could we do one for engadget i wonder?

I've updated the quick guide today to try and make it look a little nicer, and as you can see i've got myself a new sig.
I still look at the quick guide and see a mass of text though, what i want to do is produce a webpage for it, but does anyone have any hosting?

I think the 'Zerker man might have hosting, although better to find out from him first :p If not there are plenty of places to get hosting, sometimes even free!

If you decide to go for the web page route let me know when you start. I have recently started learning XHTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL so it would be nice if I could stick my untrained oar in  :D

If you have the time then I'm sure plenty of people here have the hosting for it.

I feel the same way with the news (in that it's a huge block of text) though it keeps people checking back regularly so helps keep the community active - for the guide that's not really part of it so a webpage which could be linked to would be a great idea and I don't see any possible down side. :)

happy to be part of such a good team, full of quality members.
Science is the why - you guys are the reason for the where. The quality output is just a bonus imho

Well it needs to be free, i'm not paying for it! :p
What are the disadvantages of putting apache on my fileserver?
Is it easy to setup, do you have to install a pile of firewalls?

So have i! Well no MySQL or php, but html and css i can do. I can't see it needing mysql... its for databases isn't it?
And what does php do?
You're certainly welcome to stick your oar in, more the merrier. :)
And i'm hardly a css/html expert, so i could probably use the help.

I wonder if the simplest way might be to use the free google pages service:
http://4fourtytwo.googlepages.com/home

There's one i did, there's a nice gui and whatnot. I can have the url foldingguide.googlepages.com, thats free, or something else... any ideas for urls?

The url doesn't really have to be easy to remember because it will just be linked to from my sig and from the sticky.
You can edit the html of these pages but i think the gui is good enough for what i want, at least to start with. Perhaps we can make a better page later on, but this is definitely going to be better than a post in a sticky.

Lets start with that and see how it goes, i'll see what i can do with it.

If you fancy some coding action how about a signup page for the folding competition?
You'd want some sql there, if you're really feeling brave you could even do the stats and leagues there...

If you have a google mail account you can go to http://pages.google.com/ and theres a nice bit of free webspace to play with.

My knowledge of XHTML is OK. Most basic stuff I can do off the top of my head. CSS I am not so good at. The book from which I learned XHTML covered CSS but it wasn't as complete as I'd have hoped.

Yes I can fart about changing styles of text and so on, but layouts I am completely stumped on. I could do it using tables but that's cheating.

PHP, Apache and MySQL all come together to serve dynamic webpages. Apache as you know does the serving. PHP is what does all the whizzy things like check login information, create data based on input and other stuff that XHTML can't do. MySQL is the database bit where data can be stored and retrieved.

Since the Folding Guide would only require XHTML and CSS I can probably leave that all up to you. I would, however, love to create a signup page and possibly a stats page that updates itself

If that's successful I could put rich out of a job :p

As it happens i know nothing about sql or php, but css styles i can do quite well, so we'll make a good team. :p

It seems like google pages doesn't really like html and css, it messes things up and displays things differently to how it should, so i'm going to use the gui and if i want to go the css/html route i'll have to use some other hosting. I'll start with one made with a gui and then sometime in the future i'll find some hosting and do a css/html one with perhaps some sql/php stuff if you fancy it.

A signup page for the competition would be fantastic, stats are an extra but its the signup bit that needs to be simplified most. That combined with a quick guide webpage will make competing in the competition much easier.

Its just the quick guide bunged onto a webpage, but its so much nicer and easier to read on a white background.
