Team 10 doing rather well

How much damage would a P4 2.8 (old I know - 1Gb RAM though) and a dual-core Macbook Pro (2Gb) do? Need something to do after I finish my BBC CPDN :)

How often would the p4 be on? 24/7 or much less?
It makes quite a difference.

I'd estimate you could get at most about 200ppd, which would put you in about 70th place, and you would get to stomp around 55 active members :p

Thats a wild guess on the ppd though...

Every little helps, the team would benefit and the science would benefit. :)

What processor does your Macbook Pro have? If it is a 64-bit CPU you can run the SMP client and get yourself around 1K PPD or more. Although the deadlines on the SMP WUs are quite short [2 days or less] so your Mac would need to be running for at least 6-8 hours a day [based on my 4400+ doing an SMP WU in approx 12 hours]

Hmm, it's one of those 1.86Ghz Core2Duos, not sure if those are 64-bit. Run it pretty much 24/7 anyhow :)

Definitely worth getting it going then. I run my MBP 24/7 basically, possibly with some time off for good behaviour every now and then. I don't know how your temps are with your laptop, but mine was getting very hot doing this, so I found a nice little app to get the fans going at a lower temperature and to keep it nice and cool. It's a cool app, as it allows you to actually sit with it on your lap without going infertile . Link can be found here:

Edit: Oopsie it's a Core Duo, so not 64-bit. Ah well, not so bad I guess.

Mine's a CoreDuo as well. I got mine before the C2Ds came out. They are 64bit.

With mine, I reckon I get about 800-1000ppd out of it.

I only get 100ppd on my 3200+ at 4000+ speeds 24/7, so i would have thought the p4 would get less. That's with the current rubbish WUs.
