Looking for a full day activity, ages 23-66 so something they can all do nothing to physical. Based in the south East ideally.

Oh 20 or so people.

Personally i find "team building" days counter-intuative, causes introverted people to become even more socially awkward and allows the loudest and cockiest to "show off"

But really i'd just go for something super simple.. More of a "get to know eachother better" day out.. rather than team building.

We did a cooking day last year, was quite fun. The team has been together a long time, it's more of a fun day out tbh.

We have a yearly 'Away Day' where I work. The morning is usually a boring 3-hour meeting, but then we would have lunch in a nice pub, and the afternoon is actually fun. E.g. one year we did pottery which was mostly paid for by the team's budget holder and then if you chipped in £5 or £6 at the end, you were allowed to have your item fired / glazed and you could collect it a week later.

Massive **** up at the pub?

That's exactly what one of ours descended into, it was meant to be a day in the Peak District doing boring team exercises and ****, but the weather was on the damp side and so we went to pub for an early lunch and never left. The boss was not too pleased at all, the bloke who drove the minibus joined us and was absolutely slaughtered.

My company goes away for a night or two each year, we've done DisneyParis, CentreParcs a couple of times, a Cluedo experience once (not the best) and this last year we did one of those Locked Rooms (which was only an hour or so in and of itself) which was really good, followed by dinner and drinks.

' Team building ' even the phrase makes me cringe.

Basically the person with the loudest voice and the most 'pro-active' vocabulary attempts to acheive a team objective without giving a **** about the the team.

Thought these things died out in the 90's

Just keep it fun rather than the forced socialising crap some places do with really mediocre “games” where you’re stuck inside a hotels meeting room, don’t place people into groups, don’t make people present, just let them get on with whatever the activity is and mix at their own pace.

Team building events can be fun, it all depends on what your team is like though and how well you all get on. If you have the type of people who would say 'cringe' then it's likely not going to be a great day and probably something else would be more suitable for them.

Pretty much every time Team building has been brought up with IT people i work or have worked with the response has been extremely negative. Some have point blank refused to participate, others go but make sure they are as far away from the action as possible.
I dont blame them, personally i think Team building is garbage - well it tends to be with IT staff who tend to be social hermits anyway.
Even a mass **** up is out of the question as many wont want to be anywhere near other staff in a pub, let alone management or supervisors who they will not likely share a bevvy with.

If you mist then something like laserquest or a track day would get them moving more than playing some rubbish game in a hotel which will only make your moral or team work far far worse.
