Team building ideas?

Ah we used to do regular team building at my old work. Usually we'd team build the **** out of 10 pints.

Now I work with a recluse, a teetotaler and a.......vegan :shudders:

Personally i find "team building" days counter-intuative, causes introverted people to become even more socially awkward and allows the loudest and cockiest to "show off"

But really i'd just go for something super simple.. More of a "get to know eachother better" day out.. rather than team building.

+1
all the beta's try and become alphas and all the wallflowers end up hating themselves even more :p

Did ice sculpting a few years ago. Everyone thought it was going to be rubbish but it turned out to be quite a laugh

Making and racing a go kart was alright

Wanted to do a cooking one, but it becomes really awkward catering to everyone's tastes and was surprisingly expensive

Also did a head for heights thing a long time ago. I really enjoyed it because I thought I'd be rubbish and it turned out I wasn't. However, quite a few people were not pleased with the activity and didn't fully participate

Promote the least personable of them to the rank of commissar, place all in a gulag for a month with food for only half. The commissar executes anyone who doesn't fight.
That team will be utterly refined in a short time, and afterwards none of them will quite look at each other in the same light ever again.

We went to a music studio in Brixton and made "songs" with a guy who claimed to have worked with Basement Jaxx.

It was actually quite amusing, though as someone who steadfastly refused to even do nativity plays from a very early age I hated having to stand in a glass cube and "rap" while my colleagues watched.

Even so I found the whole thing immensely interesting and actually got something out of the exercise.

Edit: It was Iguana Studios but the session was run by some consultant who was employed to give us tips on creative thinking.

He actually taught us some really good techniques for problem solving.

I think if you label it "team building" then you're going to get people reacting negatively to it before they even see what you've got planned - it conjures up images of something completely **** like say going to the countryside and building a raft while racing another team etc..

We never has a specific day but we did organise some fun social trips outside of work that were open to anyone from the office who replied to the e-mail and showed an interest - stuff like go-karting etc.. only takes a few hours in the evening, pub afterwards and people just go if they want to go not because the company is putting on some "organised fun".

One of the silliest things ever invented.

The last one I went on I hated the bunch of knuckleheads more at the end of the day than I did at the start.

Team building is a waste of everyones time.

Lasham Gliding Club. Every body gets a 10-15 minute flight with an instructor and you can have dinner afterwards.

(Did this about 20 years ago, do not know if they still do it)

The only people who'll engage in activities like that are the outgoing types who'll give anything a go, you're not gonna get 66yr old Fred up there on his heart meds.

Those room places, actually good fun. I do not recommend being extremely drunk before hand, your not much use to anyone. You also get told off a lot via the tannoy.

We did one in Cardiff as part of a stag do, it was in the dark and had an ancient Egypt theme to it so was sand on the floor. Cue drunk men building sand castles instead of trying to escape :D
