So im wandering how much fps people are getting on this game. With the pc i have in my sig, im getting a good fps when just running around (i tend to play on 24player dustbowl) 70-100fps. and if there are a few people fighting etc then maybe 50-60fps.

but sometimes it goes all the way down to 30 fps - especially when everyone is fighting for the last point . I was wandering if this was normal for my system or if i have some kind of problem.

sounds about right.

I run at 1680x1050, max settings, max AF/AA on a 9600GT and [email protected], and get dips down to 40fps at times - usually stays at the vsync'd 60 though :)

hmmm im running it with 2xaa 2xaf, and then max expect reflections which i have to keep simple for some reason. (i guess its my cpu ? its at stock too) and i run res at 1440x900.

EDIT: full hdr too.

Tf2 always runs fine for me.

1680X1080 (or whatever a 20inch lcd is) X4 AA + X16AF. 3.5ghz E6300, 2gig TEAM ram @1:1, x1900xt.

Is your CPU at stock? (and if so, why? :p)

Up your clock to 3.2, and you'll be able to max the settings out easily..

It's a heavily cpu bound game, so adding AA&AF doesn't really hinder performance at all, as the graphics card isn't doing much else..
You should be able to run 16AF/16QCSAA without troubles on a GTS :)

Sounds fine, I can feel it chugging a bit when everyone is on screen at once, anyone with the same or lesser system that says otherwise just isn't very sensitive to FPS changes.

Too bad it causes the game to become unstable and stutter.
There is another method to enable multithreading, it includes that command and a few others that corrects the stability issue.

same here, MQM2 causes tf2 to die a horrible stuttery death on my machine :(

Not that I'm too bothered, it's not like it's unplayable anyway..

E6850 @ Stock, 4gb RAM, WinXP, 512mb 4850 overclocked

I run these settings:

Model/Texture/Shader Detail @ High
Water Detail @ Reflect All
Shadow Detail @ Medium (it has no high option?)
Color Correction @ Enabled

8xMSAA
16xAF
Field of View @ 90.00
Vsync Enabled
Full HDR and Bloom enabled when available.

My fps never drops below 60fps even when congested etc.

1680x1050 16xQ CSAA 16xAF all very high settings + HDR and i still sometimes get below 30/40FPS when theres quite a bit

On the laptop I tend to get a solid fps of > 50 with all high settings no AA or AF at 1280x800, laptop is Turion T60, x2300, 4gb DDR.

On the rig in sig mind I crank it all up (4AA and 16AF and solidly get over 100 fps with the occasional drop down to 60ish)

one thing I do notice is that the 6600gt in my spare gaming rig seems to struggle with the game and performs worse than my laptop possibly because of something unknown setup wise or possibly because the game seems to favour ATI parts, im not sure!

EDIT :- On closer inspection to some of the comments suggesting the game is CPU bound this could well be down to the 3.2EE P4 in the spare machine.

I've noticed some bad fps drops when there's quite a bit of action on screen, regardless of the resolution or settings I'm using. Thing is, the game never used to dip below 60fps when I was using an 8800gt, it's only since I upgraded to a gts 512mb, 4870 and x2 that the framerate dips have made the game unplayable, e.g. it'll be running fine at about 200-300fps, but as soon as there's a few players in my fov the framerate will suddenly drop into the 20's! I think it's deffinately something valve have changed in one of their updates which has borked the game for me, I just hope the next update addresses the prob. All my other games run fine btw.

I call shenanigans, do you play in 24 player servers? I and my friend do and still get drops.
