If he wanted to be considered for this sort of thing he should have stayed at a top European club, every other player drops off the radar when they sign for a two bit club why should Beckham be any diffferent? chasing money and promoting brand Beckham in the USA was of his own doing now he is paying the price.

Pearce probably also didn't want it to turn into a team Beckham circus.

Olympic absentee Gareth Bale scores for Spurs in friendly

Gareth Bale scored for Tottenham after starting in a 1-1 draw with Los Angeles Galaxy in a pre-season friendly.

Wales international Bale, 23, is not part of Team GB's Olympic 18-man squad, who start their London 2012 campaign on Thursday, because of injury.

"He came back to us during this week, so [we had to] control the amount of effort he could put in," said Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

David Lopes equalised for LA Galaxy and Bale was substituted after 74 minutes.

"Gareth is extremely young and physically a beast, so he was able to put on the effort, and we extended [his time] because we want him to complete a certain amount of minutes before we start the season."

A bit pathetic really. Why not just play those minutes for GB?
