Team GB Football

Shilton isn't an outfield player.

Hold the phone! Really...?

The reason why I said of the last 40 years is due to my impractical knowledge of the excellent constant performances of England midfielders prior to the 60's. Obviously, due to the lack of coverage, footage and all else, it's virtually impossible to say whether pre-1966 midfielders were any better or worse than Beckham. Obviously unless you were present at the time!

I'm sure your knowledge is much more up to scratch though :)

It was just pointless including him in the figures.

I've seen a lot of football post '66, but I've mainly read reports and articles about football pre 50's in England / World football, I unforunately don't think time travel is possible, as I'd spend a lot of time watching old matches.

Joke really, Giggs has been **** for a decent amount of time now, Beckham is still capable of scoring great freekicks, managed 38 starts last season compared to Gigg's 22. Gigg's game has fallen apart due to age/pace while Beckham never had pace as a part of his game. He's been hugely involved in the build up, Gigg's hasn't, and he's simply a better footballer right now and a FAR bigger name/draw/story than Gigg's. Terrible decision on footballing and media reasons.

Giggs, Bellamy and Richards? Really, is Walker fit, I like Richards but if you're talking about actually winning the tournament you want to go for the 3 best over 21's there are, Richards is good but there are better players. If lampard is fit(not sure he is, I know he and media mentioned injury takes him out of Euro's but could be fine for the Olympics) then Lampard, Beckham and, god knows on the other one.

Bellamy is quality but hasn't really been in form for the last few months, but also not used as much as he was during his best spell.

Considering Bale is likely to go and possibly Ramsey(though based off this season no idea why) its not like they needed a Welsh player to make up the numbers. I can't see any footballing reason to include giggs at all, not least because if Bale is going... they play the same position, GIggs is horrendous in the middle.

I think this is an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent outside of the EPL, or up and coming EPL players. I'd personally include the following players:

- Nathaniel Clyne of Palace
- Jordan Rhodes of Huddersfield
- James Forrest of Celtic
- Jack Butland of Birmingham
- Fraser Forster of Newcastle
- Wilfried Zaha of Palace
- Matt Philips of Blackpool
- Jay Rodriguez of Southampton

As well as some of the guys who performed pretty well in the top flight this season:

- Joe Allen
- Neil Taylor
- Phil Jones
- Chris Smalling

Worryingly I can't really think of any prominent U23 strikers we have who haven't played in the Euros!

In related news, I hear that Seb Coe won't be running the 100m for Team GB.

Why? Because he's too old and there are better people to do it, despite him being really good in the past.

Same rule applies with Beckham, what's the difference? Surely we'd rather put out a good team with a chance of winning than allow someone who's no longer good enough to represent our country to take part.

Beckham started almost twice the games Giggs did last year, Beckham was good for his team, Giggs was NOT good for his, Giggs is older, therefore your argument holds no weight.

The BEST players were caught up in the Euro's, Beckham is one of the better older players left over, and better than a lot of the rest of players available for England.

Financially, he's a MUCH bigger shirt seller, much bigger fan base and much more worldwide appeal than Giggs, and he's better on the pitch. For every reason you might pick Giggs, Beckham is better, for every other reason, Beckham is better, yet Gigg's is going.

You can be 100% certain that if Gigg's had gone to the US and Beckham was at Utd, Beckham would be going.

If its the FA, Pearce sucking up, or a mixture of both, he's picking a player from, Liverpool, Utd, City and Chelsea....pandering is one of the reasons England suck so badly in international football and the reason Great Britain will also suck.

Squad: J Allen (Swansea), C Bellamy (Liverpool), R Bertrand (Chelsea), J Butland (Birmingham), S Caulker (Tottenham), T Cleverley (Manchester United), J Cork (Southampton), C Dawson (West Brom), R Giggs (Manchester United), A Ramsey (Arsenal), M Richards (Manchester City), D Rose (Tottenham), S Sinclair (Swansea), M Sordell (Bolton), J Steele (Middlesbrough), D Sturridge (Chelsea), N Taylor (Swansea), J Tomkins (West Ham)

I actually think that's really quite reserved and boring! :(

The selection of forwards si awful there is litterally nothing once you look past Bellamy and Sturridge, but Jack Cork is in so I'm a happy bunny although a bit of me wants them to do terrible afer the PR disaster that boot boy Pearce has managed of the whole selection process.

We have no realistic hope of winning so the PR and financial implications of picking Beckham should have been taken into account and like it or not he sells tickets and shirts and put's bums on seats.

Neymar, Hulk, Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Ganso, Pato, Leandro Damiao, Oscar, Lucas, Sandro & Rafael all in the Brazilian Olympic Squad.

Play a friendly against Team GB on 20th July. Should be hilarious! Can't wait to see Neymar, Ganso, Damiao, Oscar & Lucas!

Some of the players that Spain and Brasil are sending to the Lympics is

Really can't wait to see them play.

Also; according to Geoff **** at Sky, Lympic football is terrible because it's not the pinacle of the game. Do. Not. Get. Me. Started. :p
