Team OcUK Folding@Home News 5th - 12th January

Got a 7028 which has taken me down to 21k PPD at the moment, PPD on different units seems to jump about at will recently!

Still waiting for my first bigadv :(

Im now on an 8011 with PPD of 22.5k.

Never seems to have any uniformity of WU points :(

I think ill aim for 2 Million and swap to Seti maybe

ok ok

I've been slacking lately - what with the PSU RMA (rejected) and not noticing the other two PC's had crapped out.....

All in all, lost the i7 990x for over a week and the two 2600k's for 4 days - but might as well have been a week as the two 6903/6904's they were working on will/were reurned past deadline.

Anyways, managed to get a new 24pin cable for the PSU (which resolves the issue) - thus, the 990x is up and running again and also means I can keep tabs on the other two rigs without physically going to them :D

Gonna run the 990x on normal smp's for a day or so - just to make sure the PSU is ok.

p.s........

I just seen this - wondered if it's legit..... 2 x Sandybridge-EP's (LGA 2011 - unknown model/speed - but as it's power rating is 150w it's probably the Xeon E5-2687W) pulling in just under 200k ppd on a 6900:

I seem pretty much back up to speed as well, not sure what happened to Ba last two days though... :(

Finally managed to send my p6904, some 16 hrs after I finished it, at least I still got some bonus points, but just now another rig just uploaded a p6904 and was I greeted with "Server reports problem with unit" .. 4 days of leccy wasted :(

I noticed a thread in the FF about these 80xx WU when I checked to see why my WU wouldn't upload, these were initially over inflated, folders were seeing massive ppd, so they were docked, several in the thread then stated that they were docked too low.

Here's the thread http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=20507

EDIT: points and deadline have been increased.

Found it now and sorted!

Does everyone find their GPU crunches a lot more info than the CPU? Or does it depend what project you have?

GPU is running: 6803
CPU is running: 7200

Same amount of time on each but GPU is a 77% and CPU at 30%

Its actually the other way around, the GPU client crunches much smaller work units than the SMP CPU client, thats why it gets them done faster.

There are also bonus points related to how much work the client is doing.

For the SMP units you have to complete 10 of them before you will get bonus points.

But it does depend on the clients you are running and the WU you are allocated.

Are you running the SMP Client? Also what GPU are you running, e.g. AMD gpu's can eat into the CPU performance unless tweaked.

Yep im running the SMP cliet, and the GPU is a gtx480 at stock speeds.

That must be why its taking ages for my CPU then, because of the larger workload.

But this isnt a 24/7rig as I play games and work on it, so it gets turned off when im gaming.

Sorry whats that?

On another note, the 7200 is pretty new and any third party apps may not have the data in their databases to calculate the points yet, from looking around it seems that there are some workarounds for some monitoring software (HFM) but not sure what you are using so can't tell
