Waiting on my BT Openreach Huawei Echolife HG612 FTTC VDSL fiber fibre NTE, BT, SKY, TALK TALK modem to arrive in the post but in the mean time i thought i would set it up with a different modem until this one arrives.

the modem i will be using is : Talktalk Super Router HG635
and the router i will be using is a Asus DSL_ac68u

now the problem is i seem to be getting a ip/subnet/domain or some type of conflict between the 2 devices and im having a problem configuring it correctly

what i did was plugged the master socket cable in then into the modem then from the modem using a lan cable to the router then from the router to the pc.
i set the router in wan and set primerly lan port 1 as ethernet port. and plugged the modem into that port.

turned the router off and back on...

then i either get no internet access or i can no longer access 192.168.1.1 or .2
the furthest i got was gaining internet access but then i could no longer get GUI access on 192.168.1.1 or .2 or i got the configuration settings needed to be reset from the asus router page.

its annoying the hell out of me can i get some help from a expert please.

i want to get it setup correctly and be able to access the internet and be able to access GUI of the router @192.168.1.2 and the modem @ 192.168.1.1 but like i said before i can only sometimes get the internet working and when it does i cant access any of the router or modem or i can get one working and the other not working lol

Before you read below I strongly suggest you do a hard reset to both modem/router devices, then upgrade the software/firmwares on both of them to the latest and most recent updates both could possibly be at - followed by another hard reset on both of them again (using the pinhole function somewhere on both modems/routers). Why do this you ask yourself (or me)? Well... It is really simple, doing this will phase out any errors, bugs or bad sectors on the router which aren't configured correctly.

Have you tried seeing if the Default Gateway/Default IP Address has changed? If so type "ipconfig" into Command Prompt (excluding the quotation marks). If you're using two devices with the same Default Gateway/Default IP, I strongly suggest and advise that you change them, e.g. the 1st modem/router could be 192.168.1.1 and the second modem/router could be 192.168.2.1 (if you look carefully and see exactly what I've done, you can see I have only changed the number after the 2nd decimal).

However, before you connect them all together - make sure you set everything up individually, so you don't get any IP Address Conflicts. On the other hand, the method I have described is if you want two separate Local Area Networks (LANs) running on the same Wide Area Network (WAN) connection (basically your internet connection from a specific ISP). That also means if you want one whole network you will have to setup the 2nd modem/router without DHCP (and this basically gives IP Addresses automatically to any wireless and/or wired devices which connect to the main modem/router, in order to access the network).

Also use static IP Addresses on both, so they're both physically connected to each other all the time, even after rebooting, they will have the same IP Address. This can most commonly be done through adding the MAC Address of the other device to each device's IP Address table, but you'll be using something called the IP Address reservation table, which is also the Static IP Address table. The Dynamic IP Address table will give out IP Addresses automatically using DHCP, which may be the main cause of your problems and frustration getting this entire thing to work.

If all of the above fails, one or both of the modems/routers may not be applicable to function with each other, in order to create a network.

yeah this is basically a home network all i want to be able to configure them as modem as static modem that routes the ip to the router and the router routes to everywhere in my house including my devices.
and also make the router be able to get the ip address from the modem and configure it on the router side.

but i cant get my head around what device needs to be set as what
ip on what subnet on what dsn on what device, i also managed to get the mac address of the modem unclear where on the modem i put the mac on both or how to set them both up so that the router takes priority and asigns ips and stuff via dhcp ect ect.

as hopefully when i get it set up i want to forget about the modem and just make settings and changes and firewall from the router only....

think things are more complicated aswell cause both devices have there own DSL modems lol and routers but setting the network up this way makes the modem side closer to the master socket and that way i can run a lan cable from the modem to the router in another room and gain better stability.

When does your HG612 arrive? I'd be inclined to wait for that. You could double NAT things but that's just messy.

TT HG635 - setup "normally" with ISP details and, for example, sits on 192.168.0.1. DHCP setup to give out IPs.
Asus - set the Ethernet WAN port to DHCP (assuming that is supported), change the LAN side of the Asus to be 192.168.1.1. Once connected the Asus should get a 192.168.0.x WAN IP and have the H635 as it's default gateway.

Devices behind the Asus should be able to access that router on 1.1 and the HG635 on 0.1.

Right the HG612 has arrived :)
i have got it working WOOOHOOO lol but i still have one issue.

Internet is working through router
modem is working through router
i can access router via 192.168.1.1
but i cant access GUI from modem only router.
i have been trying to get access or setup access to the modem @192.168.2.1 but i cant seem to get in, or telnet to the modem to get statistics.

i have flashed the modem with unlocked 08 firmware and i can get gui access by plugging the modem in to my pc directly and configuring my lan port on my pc @192.168.0.100 but if i set lan port to auto i cant get a correct gui connection

any help ?
