This is in the gaming peripherals because there's no other forum i can put this in that i can see.

I've got a headset / mic mainly for VOIP telephone calling ( Voipbuster to be precise ) so this isnt about gaming. I use a pair of Kingston Hyper X Cloud ll headset

They can be USB or combo jack, and at the moment i've tried only the combo jack.

I basically plugged them into the one and only headphone / mic on my Lenovo T440P Thinkpad, and opened the Voipbuster audio wizard to go through setting them up for phone use.

I got the test sound in the headphones no problem. But when it came to the mic , i had less luck. VB's audio wizard ( mic section ) starts with the user speaking into the mic to see if the level is ok. I had to speak a bit too loud to get the level right to the start of the red line, but it was working, so, ok for now.

Next bit on the wizard is to do a few seconds of recording the user speaking into the mic, then playing it back to check quality. There was no sound on playback, despite the level being about adequate when speaking to record.

I decided to phone a pal and have them listen to me too see if maybe the VB audio wizard was working properly and not telling me lies. They could hear me, but they said my voice was very very tinny

Also, i could hear an echo in my headphones as i was speaking and a weird robotic sound as i started to talk. They were crystal clear when they spoke to me.

I'm using Win 8.1 and the laptop is bog standard.

Can someone help me to improve the speech into the mic and maybe stop the
the weird echo and robotic oddball sound ?

Cheers!
