Hi guys me again, I really wanna buy a computer today but i need to figure some stuff out,

1. how do you know when a mother board supports dual channel ram?

e.g does the intel dp965lt 965 (socket 775) support it?

how about the gigabyte ga 965 series?

2. core 2 duo 6300, 6400 or 6600 which one is the one to buy

p.s i don't have a lot of money - i'm a loser!

thanks a lot in advance

If you can afford it I'd suggest the Gigabyte DS3 and either a Conroe 6300 or maybe a 6400 depending on the cash situation. All Socket 775 motherboards support dual channel Ram, almost all are DDR2 though so if you do not have DDR2 then you will need to get some or attempt to hunt down one of the very few motherboards that supports ordinary DDR.

If going for Gigabyte remember that some of the cheaper GSkill has problems with the DS3 and DS4, there is a thread in the motherboards forum with compatible Ram.

coool!

thanks a lot :D

also is the gladiator midi case with 500w PSU any good do you think?

does the case really matter?

can it affect performance? (other than the PSU requirement of course)

cheers

1: you shouldn't be linking to competitors m8
2: the PSUs included with cases tend to be crap (especially when the whole package is £30)

You will have to spend at least £50 seperately on a decent PSU (like Enermax Liberty 400 Watt, for a single card system) and another £30 ish minimum on a decent case.

Don't be fooled by the wattage, a generic (i.e. cheap) 500 Watt PSU will offer less than half the power of the Enermax Liberty 400 Watt, if that.

Bad case can create cooling hotspots where hard drives, graphics etc get cooked, just go for a cheap decent one with 120mm intake and exhaust like this:
Antec SLK3000B.
