Technology is suppose to get smaller but it seems to be the other way around with graphics cards. Anyway when these new Nvidia 9000 serise cards that are coming out in March do you think it'll be long before we see smaller GT and GTS cards? So I can actually fit one in my PC?

The actual chips themselves are shrinking in size, just seems to be the boards get more and more complicated adding to the length.

Yea they are getting smaller, but the more we advanced then the transitor count (I think) increases, cant remember by hour much, there was a thing about that, but its a big number lol.

The 9 series will be the same size as the 8800 GT, and 8800 GTS 512mb probably, as they are the same cards, old 2006 8800's on a 65nm process, so they aint new, they been out since November 2006, had nothing new since then, which is why i said enough was enough and downgraded, its bloody crap, they expecting you to pay £400 for a 2006 8800 that they gona release in March 2008, pmsl, the ***** are having a laugh.

Even if the 9000 series are 8800's but on a smaller process then fine that still emans tech is getting smaller.

Yes, it means 2006 tech is now smaller, not new tech, as we aint had any new tech since 2006.

transistors are getting smaller but to move forward, transistor count has to increase.

Still seen very little concrete evidence that the GeForce 9 series is just going to be a slightly tweaked 8 series... I mean, sure, the '9800'

GX2 is just two G92 boards bolted together with a bit of SLicky glue, but then we have the 9600 GT, which genuinely is a good two times faster than its predecessor by all accounts (the 8600 GT/S, and judging by its specs it should be!)... I think once we see a 9800 -- single card it will be at least a fair amount faster than the current 8 series. Call me overly optimistic, I just think everyone's basing nVidia's future actions on AMD's far too much.

Eh, the evidence is staring you in the face, the 9800 GX2 is 2x 8800 GTS's, the 9600 GT, is an 8800, that means the 9 series are 8800's, you can't get anymore official than that im afraid, the 9 series are yet more 2006 8800's.

Its a ******* joke, were in 2008, not 2006, and don't expect these to run Crysis either imo, as theres no way in hell a 2006 8800 can, they said Crysis was 2x years ahead, 2006 is not 2x years ahead from when Crysis came out, 2 years ahead would be 2009, as Crysis came out in 2007, so now that Nvidia/AMD are still in 2006, while we are all in 2008, that means the cards to run Crysis well from the ***** will be coming out in 2011, as thats when they'll release their 2009 cards, which will be the 2 years ahead cards Crytek were on about to run it well, as 2007 + 2 years = 2009.

thought so, its not just me then

for me i find that if i want to remove RAM out of my pc i have to take out the graphics card before pulling the 'tab' down

so annoying, can they not at least design mobos so that the ram ports are higher or the ghaphic ports are lower?

Not even that, 64 shaders on a 256-bit bus, mate.

If the 9800 GTX is to the 8800 GTX what the 9600 GT is to the 8600 GT then I'll be happy, be it an old architecture or not...

Are you prepared to pay the price for "smaller" technology?

I am happy with a 1 meter graphics card as long as it is priced well and performs better than any previous release.

Smaller doesn't come into it imo, if everyone wanted smaller 8800's, then they would simply not have bought them in 2006 when they were released, they would have said, ill wait till 2008 then buy one, as they are gona be smaller.

rubbish, come on. people bought them because they were the best. you can bet your right leg people would have bought smaller versions if the price was right but at the time of course, there was nothing smaller. i didnt think 'oh it might not fit so ill pass' when i bought my gtx, i thought 'sod it ill make it fit'.

Thats why i said smaller doesn't come into it, if it did, then they would have waited till now to buy their 2006 8800's, but as you said, you didn't care about the size, if it didn't fit, you would have made it fit.

size does come in to it. given a choice people would buy a smaller card. at the time, there was no choice. people with shuttle cut holes in the side of them to make them fit. but they would have preferred not to wouldnt they? lol
