Heya

I have a telecomms interview tomorrow. Was just wondering what are the "usual" questions that might be asked?

Think I've sussed the difference between a Switch and Router, what are other examples?

Thanks a lot

Andy

Whats the difference between a switch and a hub?

Whats the difference between a T1 and an E1?

My switch is running at nearly 100% utilisation, whats wrong with it?

sorry bud, you asked an extremely open question which was about something that you don't really mean.

If we can narrow it down a bit we might be able to help you dude, I'm not trying to be belligerent.

What is the job title, description etc?

Can you be a bit more specific? Could be anything from crimping connectors all day long to digging up holes in the ground to fusion splicing fibre optics.

One is the Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy, the other is the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy. Both multiplexing models used in the core telephone network.

Dont accuse guys........your both lame........

I actually work for O2, albeit as a unix admin but i still sit in the same room as core network support and I'm working towards a btec national diploma in telecommunications, so I have the odd bit of knowledge on that shizzle, didnt google nothing, who can be bothered to type out full explinations of the two. Not me.

Dont just assume, its just plain wrong.....

You should know better z0mbi3.....im gonna kick ** head in when I get back into the office.....

Even Comms Technician is still a pretty broad subject - the basics maybe things like:

Network Topologies (Ring, Star, etc)
Network Protocols (Ethernet, TCP, IP, UDP, DHCP, BOOTP, etc).
Routing Protocols (RIP, OSPF, etc)
Optical Networks - Transponders, Amplifiers, Multiplexors.
SDH, PDH, ATM.
Switched Networks, Packet Based Networks.

The list goes on.....

Yeah but you didn't answer the question so why bother typing anything at all ;)

It clearly required more effort to type about all the studying your doing than to actually answer the question.
