Hi,

Can anyone recommend some telescopic ladders please I need telescopic because I'm short on space at the moment

I need them them to paint lead flashings in the bay window and the soil pipe

I'll be honest I've put this off for ages because I'm absolutely bricking it I hate heights and ladders so the sturdier the better

Thanks!

I bought a 5m one off Amazon and using a standoff makes it feel a lot sturdier as it doubles the width of contact with the wall.
Painted the front of my house with one recently and felt much safer with the standoff.

Standoff: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0098IOR4U

Ladder: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07SY7DN5M

Thanks, I was looking at a 3.8 m version earlier, do you think that would be enough or do I need 5m?

I didn't know about the standoffs thanks for posting them

Yep buy ladder stops and go for lighter weight ladders if you can. I’ve got a set and I have to have therapy every time I lift the damn things

Just be careful as we were supplied ladders identical to that one as in looks exactly the same. The boss receive an email stating something along the lines of the ladders not meeting certain safety requirements, (can remember the exact contents of the email) the boss then immediately withdrew the them from service.

Just a heads up. https://www.tradingstandards.uk/new...-telescopic-ladders-being-withdrawn-from-sale

Thanks for making me aware of that. I do test each rung when I extend it but will make sure it has been properly tested to bs.

I find the things heavy and clunky to use vs a standard 3-way step-ladder. Understand if space is a total issue, but if you have somewhere you can lean a step ladder I'd always go for that tbh. Working platforms are also great alternatives for gutter work etc as you can do a good length in one hit (assuming only 1 storey off the ground)

It's a typical 60's 3 bed semi with bay windows

Unsure of what to do now based on the health and safety stuff above, I already have step ladders and they are no where near tall enough to reach the lead flashing and top of solid pipe they just about get me to the top of the first story windows

This. I purchased a 3 metre telescopic and it’s way heavier than my 5.2 metre A frame ladder.

You have to be super careful to check every rung has locked every time you use the damn things as well, all a bit of a faff when you’re in a hurry.

What are ladder stops?

plastic and rubber footed plate that goes on the floor for you to mount the ladders on so they don’t slip.

you will need the longer ladders really as the 3.8’s won’t be high enough.

I would consider sectional ladders to be honest - telescopic ladders can be a bit wobbly the higher you go

Thanks I'll have a look at sectional ladders and see if they are something that will store in the shed

If not I'll have to wait until the garage has been built until I can get a set of ladders which means I won't be able to crack on with those jobs for ages

That's a few comments against telescopic now, think I'm going to have to wait until the garage is built next year :(

It’s more the case that using them to get to guttering isn’t ideal - it’s very high and isn’t stable enough. Using a set inside to get into a loft hatch is fine usually. I just wouldn’t personally want to be that high up on a set of telescopics.

What kind of storage space do you have? Some of the bigger aluminium ladders can actually store smaller than the shorter ladders because they are in three parts rather than two. I have a 6.2 metre ladder that folds up to just under 3 metres and will fit in a modest shed. It comes with spreaders for the bottom (you can buy ones for the top too), but it makes it very stable up high because the bottom has an extra meter width on the feet.

Ah ok that's interesting because I also have a modest shed which is absolutely full of kids toys and rubbish for the tip when they open again!

Can you link me please?

Thanks
