Hey all,

Im still a little confused with my current setup...
Today I brought a PS3 *Wooo :D*, however I was a little shocked to find that it only comes with the standard component cables (Yellow, White, Red), therefore no HD goodness...

I also have a 360, which uses the Red, Green, Blue component cables...

Here are my questions...

1. Am I experiencing true HD through the Red, Green, Blue cables of the 360?
2. Which cables shall I buy for the PS3 for true HD?

Also, I've just seen that I have two HDMI spots in the back of the television... maybe I should buy a HDMI cable for both the PS3 and the 360, therefore easy splittage? I'm not sure if that works okay or not?

3. I have a Sony Sound System... At the moment, I have the Red, Green, Blue cables in the "Line" part of the TV. And all I need to do is put the TV on MONITOR-3 (By pressing the AV button till it comes up with 0 3 or something) and then put the sound system on "Line" and the sound comes out all the speakers...
Is there a way so that I can have the PS3 AND the 360 use the speaker system? I normally have the TV speakers (Built in) turned to 0, so the speaker system does all the sound work.

Hope it all makes sense and that a TV expert is able to help ;)

Thanks,
Marky

The Red, Green, Blue cables your using for your 360 is the Component option. This is HD. Component will only support a maximum of 1080p (i think). The other option for the 360 is VGA which will support full 1080p.

Another option if you have a newer 360 is to go HDMI.

As for your PS3 get yourself a HDMI cable for it.

Thats Composite Video + Stereo Audio, not component.
As you can see im a complete tv cable noob - therefore need help :p

You want HDMI for the PS3 for sure, DVD upscaling and all.

Okay but will that work okay with my speaker system?

Ah yes forgot about that - no HDMI for the 360 :(
What colour are the cables for VGA?

EDIT: If anyone needs to know I have:

TV: Toshiba WLT66 37" (http://www.imgsync.com/view/img/4213506toshiba_wlt66.jpg)

The only thing you may want to add to this is that there are two types of Scart. RGB scart has the best non HD image quality you can get while there is also non RGB scart where the picture quality is the same as Composite.

As has been said already i would get a HDMI cable for your PS3 and use that into the TV, it will possibly be cheaper than using a PS3/PS2 component lead, and is the only way that you will be able to watch upscaled DVDs. With regards to the Audio it will be easier to use an audio switch box, you can have both the 360 and PS3 connected to your amp and select which one you want to use. You can get them at most electrical retail shops for about £10-£13 mark for a 3 way switch.

The only thing you may want to add to this is that there are two types of Scart. RGB scart has the best non HD image quality you can get while there is also non RGB scart where the picture quality is the same as Composite.

Component at non HD reolutions > RGB Scart.

HDMI for the PS3. Stick with component for the 360 the WLT66 doesnt seem to support 1366*768 according to the manual, you could try it but I'm not sure I'd bother if youre satisfied with the current picture from the 360.

If you have your amp connected to the audio monitor connections on the TV, which you seem to have, then the PS3 output should go to your external system the same as the 360 does at the moment.
With it set up as you have at the moment your external system is just replacing the TVs so when you switch from PS3 to 360 and vice versa the sound should switch over as well.

Amended the svideo thing, my bad.

Also added a few more - correct me if im wrong but you can use HDMI to DVI-I for ps3 yes?

If Im wrong ill amend it again lol

9. RGB Scart - Video + Audio / Non HD / Above Average Quality / xbox360 via converter

Remember that with the included adapter in the box it's just composite video via a SCART connector; you need a whole new cable to get RGB Scart from the 360. Thought it might be a bit ambiguous as it's very easy to get confused between the two types of signal that can be provided via SCART.
