Television Cables

Hey guys... I am wondering for my recently purchased Wii what cable should I be using for the best picture quality on a HD TV?

Component, no doubt about it. It wont be HD (never will be), but it'll be EDTV at least, which is a slight boost from SDTV.

K just read up about EDTV and it does look like a step up from SDTV :)

Next question does the type of component cable for the Wii matter or will any do as with HDMI cables

It's a big step up over SD if you're using an LCD.

It was important with the gamecube and original xbox to get more costly official cables as they had a chip in them that their cheaper counter parts couldn't reporoduce to the same quality level. This basically meant that anything that wasn't official wasn't as good.

I'm of the opinion that it's not important on the Wii so long as they're good quality (e.g. gold connections) as the chip that handles progressive scan is in the console rather than on the cable.

That said if you can source an official cable cheaply enough then go with it.

Okay so tonight I'll grab a HDMI cable for the PS3 and hope that the sound system picks up the sound for both the 360 and PS3 automatically ;)

I'll stick with the cables I have with my 360 as I am happy :)

Thanks for all the help ;)

Okay heres what I currently have now:

360 = Connected to TV via Component (Green, Blue, Red)
+ Connected to Sound System via RCA Composite (Red, White)

PS3 = Connected to TV via HDMI Cable
+ Connected to Sound System via RCA Composite (Red, White)

Does that sound like a good setup?

Also, the sound system only has one pair of sound ports that can be used (RCA Composite (one red port, one white port) - Is there a device where I can connect the Ps3 and 360 together and then connect it to the single sound port? Hope that made sense :p
