I had my trusty Samsung M87 37" since 2007 it's been such a great tv too...

It has recently acquired such a strange problem on light coloured backgrounds or certain parts of the screen where it shows zero details and just lots of white.

I've tried grabbing a still image, not in the best of light quality but it should give you an idea...

The camera flashed in his hair but the rest infront and behind the guys head shows the issues...

The settings haven't been tampered with as I'm the only one to use this TV set...

Just wondering what the problem is with it? I might flog it on eBay...

If this is with BR disc or when the TV is being driven by a PC then it could be the dynamic range is set wrong. If it's Freeview then that's unlikely as a cause.

the image was taken with freeview but it does it with my sky+hd receiver through hdmi also

If it's on the Freeview tuner, and you've found that changing contrast and brightness doesn't restore the detail, then it suggests it is something internal on the set. It isn't processing the picture correctly. So unless there's something you haven't told us then the set looks like it developed a fault.

I noticed the backlight flickering and the colours being too dark the day before this image problem occured.

My mates seem to think it is the image processor.

As I haven't adjusted the brightness and contrast beyond my favoured setting in the past 3-4yrs...

Seen as how eBay is a free insertion fee weekend, I would shove it on there if it's of any worth? Surely it is to someone, what do you reckon its value is?

Cheers
