Hi,

ATM Setup is as follows:

Small white box with white wire to motorola cable modem, usb from this cable modem to pc, rj45 cable from this cable modem to the pc....

Now I want to include a DSL router to the setup as (ADSL router will not work apparently as its a cable line) so....

I will take the rj45 cable and the usb cable from the modem and plug them into my dsl router....What do I do with the white cable which goes from the small white box to the current cable modem?

I am very confused because there is no normal grey or white wire that plugs into the phone socket....

Can someone pls clarify???

Thanks in advance

but i want to share the internet connection with another pc...therefore i need a dsl/cable router....but havent a clue of how i set it up.......

Pls please pls pls pls help????????

well if i had a manual I would...:D

i really need to set this network up and just dont understand how using the cable modem....

I now think:

cable modem ---rj45---router---rj45---pc

However I have a hub as well does this make a difference???

What is the usb for on the cable modem?

are wan ports diff colours or something? how do i identify one?

werewolf so u are saying wan port from router --rj45----cable modem----rj45----pc???

if i want to incorporate a second pc presumably I need to attach it to the router using a rj45 cable??

Also do I need to bridge any connections etc??? Why is it necessary to bridge connections???

And will WEP be automatically setup or do I do this when configuring the router by going to 192.168.1.1???

pls pls help

my hub has 4 rj45's going into it....so to make it simply can i get away with attaching 1x rj45 cable from router to hub???

Do I bother setting up a connection in network connections? or does it all configure automatically?

thanks for your help so far guys......right so to get this straight:

cable modem ----rj45----- router-----rj45-----pc

then

hub ---rj45-----router (will this take care of all the printer connections etc?)

and finally

second pc-----rj45-------router

Am I on the right page so far?

Configure WPA-PSK when I have connected to the router software page...

How do I set up WEP or WPA-PSK on each pc? is there a setting I need to go into? where will i find that?

cable modem ----rj45----- router-----rj45-----pc

then

hub ---rj45-----router (will this take care of all the printer connections etc?)

and finally

second pc-----rj45-------router

Am I on the right page so far?

The hub's transparent (as is the router's switch, and any wireless). Any file/printer sharing will be set up in Windows.
Is that an instruction to do so? Or will it just happen automatically?

this is the first time i am setting up a network its for a friend and I just wanted to get it right so was double checking....at last thanks for all your help :)

so once everything is connected then just right click on the printer and presumably the hdds etc and tick the sharing option???

my connection is setup physically and software wise I am able to connect to the internet etc...However I am not quite sure of something

During the setup process I got prompted for the:

IP ADDRESS
IP SUBNET MASK
GATEWAY IP ADDRESS

PRIMARY DNS
SECONDARY DNS

I called Cable and they couldnt help

How do I find these out please?

pls pls pls help??

thanks in advance

you see i am using a netgear wgt624, I followed the wizard, then it came to a page asking me for all the above....

can i bypass this etc

are my physical connections OK? I guess they must be for me to be able to connect right?

well how can i test if its working and safe etc...

i mean i havent seen the WEP setting anywhere?

I cant even login to my router......when i go to www.routerlogin.net it wont bring up the webpage but it will bring up other webpages etc
