I'm interested in buying a mk2 TT to replace my ageing z4 now that they are in my price range. Looking at spending about 10k tops. Anyone got any useful advice? I'm guessing the 2.0 turbo is the one to go for.

You list 3 cars with TT in the name, yet don't mention an Audi TT which is obviously the car OP is on about. :o

I'd wait for the mk3 to be released rather than buy now. Let someone else take the extra depreciation due to the new model and buy a mk2 at the end of the year instead.

I think they're great looking cars - but the handling is a little numb, certainly compared to the Z4 you might find it less involved. Have you test driven one? Just don't get a diesel one :p

Are you interested in the AWD or FWD version?

It is indeed the Audi I'm talking about ;)

I know the drive is a little less involved but it ticks a lot of boxes. Pretty much decided on the TT.

The mk1 still holds its value well so I doubt the launch of the mk3 will have too much effect on prices.

I think if you buy a nice facelift mk2 TT S-line/black edition/special edition (TTS/RS etc) then it will hold value pretty well. It's a car I would like to get in the future but buying used makes a lot more sense with the new model nearly out and I think there are no more mk2 TT. Audi have even removed the info about the mk2 from there website.

One of our neighbours has a 14 plate with one of the new sports packages (contrast spoiler, black front bumper, black alloys etc). Apparently they went in looking at Q3s and ended up with a TT lol. must have got one hell of a deal, I imagine £5-6k audi centre deposit contribution.

Facelifts will be way out of his price range. I was looking at them too (2010 or newer) and in the end bought a brand new one as it didn't work out that much more expensive due to the discounts just before the MK3 announcement. (I got nearly 6k off).

Reply made by a someone with completely no motoring knowledge at all! :p

Or maybe just not that into Audis? not all car fans have the same taste I.E if you say R32 to most car fans they will think Skyline but if you say it to a VW nut they will think Golf. A TT is a car type as well as a specific name, just like Coupe.

Back on topic though, the mk2 is a sweet looking car and should hold it's value well.

It seems 10k gets you an 07 plate 2.0 turbo. Although the 3.2 v6 seems more common at this end of the market. I'm guessing nobody wants the v6 due to poor fuel consumption figures.

Are the s tronic gearboxes to be avoided?

They are brilliant gearboxes, I would never go back to manual after using S-tronic. Just look out for issues with them (usually mechatronic failures) If a car has already had it repaired once you should be ok, but make sure when test driving that the car pulls away smoothly without any throttle etc

Having had a go in my brothers one I would be looking at the alternatives in the VAG group that use the same engine, golf GTi , leon cupra etc. I like the look of the car but I didn't find it special enough to warrant the Audi price hike over similar cars with the same engine. Personally I would be looking at a higher spec GTi for the same outlay.

Already decided on the TT ;)

There's always one person who has to come out with 'it's a woman's car' jibe. Why is that exactly? Its a quick sporty coupe, not a pink smart car ffs.
