Tell me about mk2 TT's

Already decided on the TT ;)

There's always one person who has to come out with 'it's a woman's car' jibe. Why is that exactly? Its a quick sporty coupe, not a pink smart car ffs.

It's a hangover from the mk1 when Clarkson said it was more for fashion people. I love TT's personally and I don't mind being called a woman.

The V6 is the same engine as the R32 I believe. A good strong engine that sounds wonderful. Not great fuel economy and not very tunable. Very high tax/VED.

Yep, makes a nice sound but more expensive on fuel & tax. Also less tunable if that's something you would be interested in. I think you can only gain about 10HP with a standard remap compared to 50HP+ on a TFSI

VED/tax really isn't an issue in the grand scheme of things.

You don't buy a V6 for fuel economy either! ;) :D

I think it has around 250bhp. The TTS has more (270??) - but that's probably out of your price range. That said I think the v6 is quite a bit heavier? Depends on what you want I guess.

It's an evolution of the VR6 which started life in 1992 in the Corrado as a 12 valve 2.9l engine. It's been used in various guises since across the mk3, mk4, mk5 Golf, Audi A3 and TT and gained more power, valves, variable timing and capacity ranging from 2.8l to 3.6l. It's a venerable design, very robust and bullet proof but heavy due to it's iron construction.

VR stands for narrow angle in German and it's an unusual design for a 6 cylinder engine as it is not a straight six but still has a single head.

And whatever you do make sure it's a quattro! Plenty of FWD versions of the MK2 TT lurking around, and from when I looked into it, there's no simple rules on which engine has which driven wheels!

Mk1's are good cars too to be honest. OH has a 225 quattro. Less than £4k, good condition and enough pace to see off most things on the road.

I can confirm that quattro is brilliant. I had a 2.0TFSI A3 before the TT and was always spinning up the front wheels, so decided quattro was a must have. I've yet to get any noticeable spin from the TT and I'm putting my foot down a lot more.:D The thing just grips and goes.

Here's mine:

I think I would prefer the 2.0T, mainly due to its tuning potential (if your into that), and the nature of power delivery that a turbo brings. Adds to the excitement.

Unfortunately the 2.0T with both the K03 or K04 turbo do not feel like your typical turbo'd car. The K03 feel almost diesel like in its power delivery due to the tiny turbo. The K04 is better but still very progressive in it's power delivery. It isn't like older turbo cars where you get massive amounts of lag and then all the power comes in at once.
