I'm looking to buy a MK3 GTI as a run about as the Skyline will be of the road for a while.

This is the one I'm going to look at in the next day or two, yeah I know don't mention the alloys or the quads.

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...EN&model=GOLF&min_pr=&max_pr=2000&max_mileage

What I'm looking to know is what should I be looking for and what questions should I be asking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

link is doesent work.

fix the link! but that gold looks pants to me. Compared to modern GTi's its damn slow so probably driven to within an inch of its life.

£2k can get some pretty nice metal

i think it's overpriced, Looks to me the guy is just wanting money for the money he spent on it, 800-1000 would be better, Bloody hell you can buy a Mazda 6 for like 3000-3500 from arnold clark (with a bit of haggling).

In my experience (little) they are pretty solid cars. Mine has 148k on it. 1.9d and still starts first time and runs fine. Never broken down or anything. although MK3's only suit one looks really and that Euro.

that is one nasty looking peice of crap. what was the owner smoking when he bought those wheels?!

£2k is well over the top. its not even 16v is it? a decent 16v will fetch £1600-1800, so youd be paying a premium for one of the most godawful engine known on earth and to have chav wheels

dont do it!

The problem is I'm having a hard time finding a good MK3 for under or around £2000.

I know everyone will have their opinion on what I should buy instead of a Golf but I have my mind made up on that.

What I need to know is what should I be looking out for and what should I be avoiding.

Hi mate. Join the Edition38 forum and look in there classified. Some fine examples as its a enthusiast site mostly.

As I said ignoring the Wheels and the quads as these will be removed and I should be able to get it for £1500 - £1600 without the chrome bling.

The car itslef looks to be quite clean and well looked after.
