Tell me about mk3 Golfs

£2k is well over the top. its not even 16v is it? a decent 16v will fetch £1600-1800, so youd be paying a premium for one of the most godawful engine known on earth

Dont think the OP's to fussed on the engine / valve size when he's got a Nissan Skyline in reserve ;)

Granted the wheels really do look carp as do the quad lights, looking past those (as they'll be coming off) the actual car itself seems to be in fairly good condition considering its age.

Everyone else seems to be advising there's so much else out there thats better for the 2K mark?

Such as?

Suppose it's down to individual preference tbh - admittedly am not that big a Golf fan myself but I can appreciate a motor thats been well looked after !

brilliant. as long as its in good condition, itll be fine.

read that thread tho, if you want it to be tip top youll have to budget for bushes etc as you would on any 12-13 year old car

That's not a problem they're on the list of things to be done.

yeah, as long as youre realistic, youll be happy. they are kick ass, but things like rubber bushes naturally perish etc. look for rust in the common places. if yu find a nice one, it will last for ever

my own one is on 181k miles, its absolutely tip top

Cheers Matt I appreciate the advice.

I can't help but go back to the first car, I just love MK3's in red and the lower mileage is also a big plus.

Ok it's not 16v but I'm not after performance I'm just looking for a good reliable car and once the car has been demodded i.e. standard wheels and lights it should look fantastic.

My mum's old 2.0 8v was nudging half a million miles when it finally went (and even then only because my dad couldn't be bothered to replace the struts again - the drivetrain was fine).

The first car will have been used and abused if it's been modified like that.

Go for a better condition car with higher miles for half the price.

no, lower miles ***

the red one is judged as more reliable, despite having never been seen :D
