Tell me about socks,

I have two types of socks now that I aim for - as thin and cool as possible for summer, and something a bit thicker for winter.

In both cases, I have found a solution from Peter Storm which works well and doesn't break the bank.

For summer, liner socks. They're designed to go inside thick hiking socks - but because of that they're super thin:

And for winter, because I was pleased with them, I recently tried and was very pleased with these:

In both cases, I got them cheaper than that from Go Outdoors, and often they're on a buy one get one half price too.

Next have a good range. Their cotton rich socks are comfy.

You will still get black bits on your carpet, but I think that will apply to all socks.

Just buy new socks each month. They are cheap enough to warrant nice fresh new socks every month as that one luxury that just feels great.

Where do people get reasonable quality not too expensive socks?

ive been buying cheap tesco plain black socks for years on the principal they are cheap so it does not matter they don't last all that long

But they have changed the material recently and they dont last at all... and they shed black stuff all round hte house,

I could google it but every store thinks their socks are the best
I buy these - https://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-midweight-boot-sock-3-pack-mens-414313

£5.99 for a pack of three, but in store they're £9.50 for two packs.

I'm a get the right tool for the job kinda person and this applies to socks too!

I have thin normal socks for wearing with shoes for the office..
thick socks for boots..
Hiking socks for when I go on a hike, even ankle hiking socks for spring summer months..
sports socks for going on a run outdoors..
indoor socks for walking around the house..

When it comes to wearing traininers.. I don't wear socks, even when running on the treadmill..
yes they get smelly, but if you cycling through different pairs trainers it's not that bad just make sure that they are dried out correctly. The only time I seem to wear socks with trainers is when they are leather trainers like Jordans, but most of my trainers are a fabric/knit of some sort now a days.

Thou since I mainly work from home now a days, I walk around bare footed for 9 months of the year and indoor socks or slips for the 3 cold months and most of the time I do go out I'm either going to the gym or going for a jog/hike/walk. If I'm popping around to to the shops or a family/close friends house then it's a pair of crocs or filp flops, even in winter and I ain't no German, so no socks for me. lol

Can't believe we've made it this far into a thread about socks without a picture of someone wearing (and even enjoying!) those freakish blue socks with individual toes *shudder*

Ahh the good old fapping sock. Mines so crispy you could snap it in two.

Most of year
Kirkland signature white sports socks from Costco.
I'll probably just get the Pringle ones they have in if there's not in stock, currently not on website.

I used to use Nike/puma but they fall apart now.

Summer /very hot
Under armour trainer socks

Smart
Next black socks

Boots
Heat holders with a thin pair of socks under

I got some bamboo socks because they were recommended on here. Danish Endurance ones.

They certainly were very comfy. But all 5 pairs I got were also threadbare within 6 months. The worst of them didn't even last 3 months. Very disappointing.
That's a shame, I've got ones from sockshop that lasted 18 months and are still super soft just worn out yeah.
I've just bought a load from BAM and they've got a better texture, hope they last longer.

Bridgedale for me but they're a double edged sword as, yes they're expensive (£15 -£25 a pair) BUT they last years, and I mean like 5+ years easily and remain comfortable through-out that life-span. They mainly make multi-coloured hiking socks but about 3 years ago they started doing a selection of just plain black & dark blue socks (called liners) that can easily be described as "office style" socks and I use both types - thick green hiking socks at the weekend and these new black office style "liners" at work during the week.

As a negative however, the black ones however I find can be excessively "fluffy" when new meaning some black bits can left in-between your toes after wearing them.
