Tell me about

Ok, fine, the Focus ST £5580.

20 quid.

Thats better. :p

I am agreeing with you, i just think the VXR might be easier to sell in the future because of the OMG MPGZ on the Focus ST and the sheer number of them for sale (although neither will probably be that easy).

Out of those two though, the OP has got to go with the ST.

If he wants something that is going to hold it's value better, than as you say, he should get a MK 5 Golf GTI.

As a sidenote, some people love the big boost wheelspin all the way down the road feel of the VXR. Maybe they aint after super quick point to point action and just want to crease themselves with laughter and scare themselves with it's power delivery.

I know to me at least, it'd be part of the character :)

It was to me too.

POWERRRRRRR!!!!

Tree.........

I just wanting to chuck a few more cars into pot to make sure I am happy with my purchase in the end. £8k is a nice chunk out of my account, maybe nothing to some but quite a lot to me.

Really like the 197 but I think i want something bigger and more beefy. Believe me if the ST was less thirsty i would be having one, especially with how impressed I have been with my ford now.

We will see. If something really catches my eye, i normally end up having it in the end.

Is the difference in fuel costs really that big a deal?

It's not as if an Astra VXR does 50mpg is it?

It's not a wall, a Scooby is a wall, you boot it, it spools and you're off. A FWD VXR is like holding onto a kite in a gale.

It might be not a wall but it's enough to send the car into total disarray while it works out what the hell to do with the power. Some people might like that, some people like eating bricks too.

It's no where near as bad as people make out, once you've driven it often you learn what to expect and how to modulate your right hoof. Plus a simple remap sorts the power delivery out.

It was rubbish. I hated it. Just an annoying car to drive really. The only appeal seemed to be when it came out it had the most power and thats all that matters down the pub.

Just why bother when there are numerous better hot hatchbacks out there? Perhaps you can fix it with mods but why fix Vauxhalls bad work, just buy a Golf or a Focus or something instead.

As stock they are, yes. Mine was pretty well sorted though and was easily a match for other hot hatches bar the **** interior.

So you can buy a sub-par car and spend a load of money and time getting it 'well sorted'.

Or you can just buy a Golf/Focus.

Tough choice.

I didn't like they way either of those looked, plus spending £1000 is hardly a load of money when you're buying a car thats £7000.

I guess I was overlooking the gorgeously desireable way a Vauxhall Astra is styled :p

At the time to me it was the best looking hot hatch and I knew that it had the potential to be a well sorted car. That said, the facelift Focus ST is IMO the best looking hatch today and the car I'd chose if I had the budget or pockets for fuel.
