Tell me bad things about the Vauxhall Tigra.

An old colleague of mine had one, and was reversing out of the work car park in front of a few of us. I don't think she'd been driving all that long and there was a few of us about waiting for her to go so we could.

She clipped the barrier next to the huge lights we had out in the car park (think the big alien craft looking things above city centre dual carriageways) and the front wing pretty much disintegrated and she earned herself a crease all the way across the bottom of the car to the far door. She wrote it off at about 5 mph.

Hmm, doesn't sound very parking/woman friendly.

Seriously mate, I am no lover of luxury, I've driven more old sheds than most people here, my standards are below ground level - but it's like sitting in the back of a Transit with welded up dampers.

And a 4 foot roof chop :D

I'd be happy if she got another astra or pug diesel, but she wants to have a shiney car for a bit.

We must have read this thread wrong then as you refer to an M reg Tigra, which is of course no more shiney than another Astra or Pug diesel.

I suppose to a majority of women, a tigra will be far more 'shiney' than an astra. Just googled a few images and my gf agree'd.

Tried buying one tonight at the auctions, the bidding started at the top of our budget :(

That's fair enough, getting a worthwhile sub £1k ph2 is not easy, ph3 is near on impossible. Not stopping me hunting though, I hate that Peugeots seem to be about all I can afford to buy and insure. :(

But it is to a woman, cause its a "Cute cuddly coupe, looks almost sporty"

Was happy when my girlfriend said she wanted a sportier car after owning a Corsa, she bought an MGF, now say what you will about them, but i'm happier she bought a RWD Mid Engined Soft-top than her old car with a big window where the back seats were!

Yeah, that's a shame, I've got a max of £1k and don't want a ph1, want something of the age of a ph2, but it's hard to find one...anyhoo that's off the topic. :p

Having not driven or even been in a Tigra (or Puma) I'm useless in this thread. :D

It is your job as the male to educate her. I wouldnt let my girlfriend drive an awful, unreliable and fragile car when better alternatives existed purely becuase she had formed an uneducated opinion on whats best.

What he said (on this occasion ;) )

I have bad memories of accepting a lift from a Tigra owner once. I had to get in the back, and I'm 6'3" tall. I still to this day have nightmares of the cackness of the rear seats and the discomfort I was in. From what I remember they were little more than moulded plastic with a couple of foam pads.

Nasty things.

A girl at college had a Tigra as her first car, she went to the cinema, parked it up. 3 hours later she came out to find a nova sticking through the side, he had been showing off and had hit it right in the side at 40mph. The damage was terrible. I think I have a picture somewhere of it, see if I can find it to post. Crappy weak cars, pedals are too close for men to drive and are just horrid inside.

I have no experience of what I am about to suggest but I am sure some on here do, how about a mazda mx3 or mx5?

From the experience she had with the accident in the pug you should really try to steer her towards something thats going to hold up better in a crash than a tigra. Not meaning to offend your wife but the only things you should buy based solely on the way they look are clothes, you wouldn't buy a house if it was too small and falling down around you just because the outside was a nice shade of blue.

Plus the Tigra mings hard.

hahaha what sort of mentalist actually wants to go and buy a tigra?! the worst thing, imo, is that i remember them being scarily unsafe in crash tests back in 95-96 when a mag was doing tests
