temp gauge not working

The temp guage on my car has stopped working does anyone know what can cause this? It has stopped working when my car went into the garage to have its cv joint replaced, that couldn't have caused this could it.? I had the gear box oil refilled as quite a bit of it was lost when they changed the cv joint.
What do i need to check inorder to get it fixed??

It's possible the wire got pulled off the temperature sensor whilst the CV was being done, but a quick inspection should prove this one way or the other. The temp sensor will most likely be in or near the thermostat housing.
