Downloaded the demo and liked it a lot.
I hear the game is very buggy and has lots of slow down in certain areas.

I like the turn based game play, anyone know of other turn based game play games like this? Ive played the Fallout series.

Also can Baldurs gate and Icewind Dale be switched to turn based play?

the X:com series, while old, is one of the best examples of turn based gameplay (behind fallout, which imo, is the best).

The baldur's gate engine by default is not turn based, however it is possible to pause the game at any time and make selections of what skills you want to use - this works perfectly for me, as it is an excellent blend of the fast paced action of real time combat along with the ability to slow things down and have a think if you really need to. In the options i believe it is possible to set a 'pause after every action' option to simulate a turn based game, but i never bothered as i thought it was perfect as it was.

If i had to recommend a game it would easily be baldurs gate 2 + the throne of bhaal expansion, despite not being a turn based game through and through i imagine you will enjoy it (i loved fallout and adored this) and as i stated before, it is possible to pretty much turn it into a turn based system.

There is a fan patch for ToEE that fixes most of the bugs and improves a lot of other things too. Once it's patched up it's brilliant.

I was thinking about getting one of the UFO games.
Which is the latest and which was the best?

I know of
Afterlight
Aftermath
Aftershock

Afterlight is the latest version, and apparently the best of the bunch. It's on my 'to buy' list, though not too high up after my experience with the first game. Afterlight's also rather tricky to acquire at a sensible price...

That said I've just done a quick check on another site and found that the three titles above are being sold together as UFO Trilogy. So you could buy that and make your own mind up. :)

Noooo! They're all a bit rubbish. Non-existent enemy AI and the buildings aren't destructible anymore. You want UFO : Extraterrestrials. Once it's fully patched up it's the closest thing there is to the original UFO : Enemy Unknown.

I liked ToEE a lot but really struggled to get it to work on XP (tried all the patches). In the end I gave up.

I agree with the above poster who suggested that the BG series + the IWD (and a more than honorable Planescape: Torment mention) series are effectively turn based. It just means you press the space bar a lot to pause the action, but it doesn't feel counter-intuitive the way it's implemented.

I have BG and IWD and all the sequils/expantions, they are very good games. After playing the demo of ToEE i remembered how much i like turn based games. IWD and BG play totally different to ToEE in my opinion... even with the pausing.

I downloaded the demo of UFO Afterlight and it wouldnt run correctly, the backgrounds were all muffed up. Sadly i cant find a demo of UFO : Extraterrestrials yet, ill keep looking.

ToEE is ordered and in the post!

You'll need the Circle of Eight fan patch, after having applied the official patches . That pretty much makes the game perfect.
