Temporary car insurance

Hi all,

I've been offered a friend's E46 M3 at a very good price and he's agreed to let me borrow the car for a weekend to see how I get on with it.

I'm looking for some temporary insurance as I want the car covered fully comp, but the M3 no longer has an insurance policy in his name because he's switched the policy to his new car. This means I'm struggling to find a company that will insure it.

Does anybody have any suggestions or am I going to have to bite the bullet and take out a whole policy for the weekend and cancel it if I decide not to buy the car?

Cheers :)

You don't necessarily need the car to already have insurance in order to take temporary cover out.

I took a days insurance out when I bought a used car as I wanted a bit more time to find a suitable policy.

This was a few years ago though but I used tempcover.com.

I think a car having a valid insurance policy already for someone else to be covered using their own policy is more relating to driving other cars on existing policies. So I couldn't use my current insurer to drive a car I had just bought, but I could use it to drive a friend or family members car if they had their own insurance on it.

I've tried a few of the results from Google but all of the ones I've tried so far require the car to already have insurance. It's the same story with my cover to drive other cars on my own policy.

I hadn't thought of my own insurer being able to provide weekend cover or anything like that - wasn't aware that's a thing they did so will give them a call.

Cheers for the suggestions :)

On my Aviva policy I can add cars of 50k or less for a period of 5 days in a row. Just an fyi if you are with them. Paid option, but not expensive.
