...Psych!

I need to do some serious work to the ZS, want to try and have one of the quickest TD's so it's time for a new head with possibly porting, and also a hybrid turbo as mine is smoking slighty.

When I start, I'll get some pics in a thread. Never had a head off before... :)

Anyway, I needed a car to use while the work is done, so I didn't have to rush.

I had a punt on eBay, price Lowest first looking for a rotbox with MOT and tax.. and got this!

It's a very rusty 416 LE, with loads of options like Air Con... and that's it.

Other features include steel wheels with a missing trim, a very inaccurate fuel gauge, copious amounts of rust, and a rattly rear speaker :p

Some more pictures of my quality metal:

Oh yeah, and it's also been crashed into on the passenger side, damaging the doors. They still work and lock, and even the electric window is fine. :p

I noticed after a nice shower of rain that a lake had formed in the passenger side, so out with the Mastik on the roof:

At least the inside is immaculate, that's all I care about. ;)
With Haynes, for when it breaks!

All in all it's pretty comfy, but nothing special. Did a 200 mile journey and it did it just fine, cruising at quite high speed. The A/C even works!

Just wanted to keep you guys up to date with my shenanigans. :D

what an absolute turd. rover fanboy bought a rover turd to get him through rebuilding his poorly rover, the turd he bought will probably break with.... hgf? haha

Actually, it is the K series engine, so there is always a risk. I have a spare HG ready, and can swap it in an afternoon if it does happen. :p

Ironically enough, the engine I've buggered in the ZS is the supposedly 'bulletproof' one. Oops :D

The rust is terminal, the car won't pass it's next MOT, but that only runs out next June, giving me time to sort the ZS.

8 months bargain motoring for £250, with some of the tax already paid is good for me.

I was embarrassed by the exterior, but inside it's not that bad. It's just the outside that is a total wreck! Then again, it's actually better than some cars on my street. That's the worrying bit.

I'm doing the work on my ZS because I want to, not because it's essential I do it now. :)

It's proven to be a capable and enjoyable car to own and drive, so I want to get a bout of major work out the way, and get a few performance mods on there while I have the chance.

And oi hurf, my life hasn't gone downhill :p I've just moved out, so needed something cheap. It does the job, and it's nice not having to worry about people crashing into it. In fact, I welcome them to do so, as any damage will increase it's value.

Hit the nail on the head there mate. :)

When it's MOT time, it'll be stripped for seats to make a gaming chair, the stereo goes on eBay and the fuel pump in a mate's 216Si as that whines like a mother in law.

The air con condenser is the same as the ZS, and guess what is one thing I need in the work I'm doing? :p

It's mechanically sound, and the rust is non-structural from what I can see. Underneath there is very little rust, which is annoying considering the exterior is so corroded.

Perhaps it was parked in the sea for a couple of years?`

I better go fill in the holes then :p

Seriously, it was the cheapest thing I could get taxed and tested at the time, and don't worry, it'll be getting a good send off with pics

I keep getting the cars because I know how to fix them. I came across a couple of hundred, needed a nail and it was there. If something went wrong with a cheap Primera or Escort, I wouldn't have a clue, but (sadly) with these it's second nature now.

The ZS was mega reliable until I started running silly boost and upping the fuelling to pretty high levels, so it is kind of my fault I guess. :o

Bigger intercooler and turbo needed to keep those intake temps down!

You've said that about every car you've had... and they have all been nails and have exploded, disintegrated or other similar endings haven't they?

Not really?

416i was solid.
420 was solid.
620ti went through a clutch and a set of rear calipers.
ZS went through a clutch and a cylinder head.

I'm struggling to see how they've all disintegrated / exploded? Or are you living in dream land, where anything other than Rover is 100% reliable? :)

Forgot about the exhaust on the 420, yeah that was well gone :D

It took me a while to learn that A/C in 100,000 mile old cars that are over 10 years old isn't something to expect working.

And I got rid because I got bored, and wanted something different. Right now I want my Ti back so badly, that was a nice car.

:D

Fixed the roof, no more leaks now. The first repair didn't quite seal it, so I went OTT and now it's much 'better'.

That one on PH would have done nicely, but I've got to work with what I'm stuck with :p

It came with a nice CD/MP3/USB head unit that wasn't mentioned, which although probably stolen is worth £50.

Plus £150 scrap for the car and I'm £50 down. Oh no! :o

Replaced the thermostat so the engine could actually hold enough heat to work the heaters, much better in this sodding weather.

The smog machine (ZS) will be back soon, I'll miss the RPM of petrol but will be glad to be back in something that isn't covered in rust.

I do indeed, at the moment I have business and work things going on, plus still settling into a new house... when I'm done and finances are sorted, I'll be running the ZS for a little longer then probably joining the leagues of the German non-indicating automotive forces.

Please don't buy a nice German car.

You obviously have some kind of hidden 'problem' with me, so why not be man enough to say it?

The fact I spend time and money on 'sheds' is more than enough evidence that when, and not if, I get a 'nice' car from another manufacturer, I will look after it to standards beyond what are considered normal.

So, once again without the politician answer, why shouldn't I own a nice German car?

I don't have a problem with people ripping the car to pieces, yes it's a shed and I know that.

However when some over-ego'd fool comes spouting off about how I should never own something better, that's hardly on is it?
