Temps after cleaning

Hello ive just cleaned my computer out (dell xps 420) it was full of crap, Cleaned processor (q9300) re applied thermal paste - artic silver 5. But now the temps have shot up by 10 degrees

sounds like too much paste tbh. how you put more on than Dell do, is a bit of a surprise though

I only used a tiny amount like it says the size of a grain or rice

Yea coolers deffintly on right as it has to be screwed to the motherboard, When you apply the paste, you only apply it to the processor? and not to the heat sink aswell right

Yup. Did you clean up both the cpu and heatsink before putting it back together?
Have you checked that all the fans are running?

It might be worth taking it back off and re-doing it as a 10 degree increase is not good.

Yea I used the artic clean solution to clean them both... Fans are running, Ill give it another try later

Yea, thats not sounding right at all! I would imagine the heatsink isnt making full contact with the cpu as I cant think of any other reason why the temps would shoot up so much! Especially after a good cleaning which should lower them!

Just had a look, and there wasnt enough paste on as when I took the heatsink off there was no paste on it, Just on the processor. re done it and the temps are back down to normal. Was reading the Artic silver website and it says it could take upto 200 hours to see a temp drop
