Hi, im using a tuniq tower on my quad core and temps seem a bit high, from core temp at idle this is what im getting. Core #0 49c, core #1 47c, core #2 48c, core #3 44c. Im sure i havent set the AS5 as good as i could have as it was my first trime doing it and when i put it on i ended up having to lift the cooler off the cpu etc and stick it back on before i even set it.

Anyway my question is, how should i go about appling the as5? on the as5 instructions it only has instructions for duel core, is what they say even the best method of application? It says on there web site to just put a beed along the center of the chip then put on the heat sink, doest mention spreading it, should i spread it anyway?

Also what is this lapping i see people saying in another thread? i guess its just applying a lair to both the cpu @ heatsink, will this help my temps?

Edit: also what temps should my qx6700 have at idle with tuniq tower with core temp?

For quad core I would spread the AS5 over the cpu, try to get an even but thin coverage.

Lapping is basicly sanding down a surface to make it flat. This is usually done to a heatsink but due to the concave nature of some intel IHS's more and more are doing it to the IHS itself aswell.

The quads do run a bit hotter than normal conroe,i lapped my TT took me hours to do but was worth it in the end.

Hmm think ill give that a go, anything to drop the temp. I hope i can get it down quite a bit as my idle temps acording to core temp seem very high to me.

ok thanks, least i know i need to fix it, going to strip it down and clean the cpu/heat sink in 30 min once the nephews leave. I know i didnt do it as good as i could have before so not to worried about getting lower :)
