How come my temps remain the same when Freq is at 1.2GHz (VID 1.05) and at 3.8GHz (VID 1.25) ?

I used to be able to get 25-29'c idle in my Corsair 650D. Now I've a Thermaltake Level 10 GT - would the case really add 10'c  ?

You could try re seating the hsf to see if it imroves any. It seems thats as cold as your chip will go at the ambient you are at.

Recently re-seated the cooler (Corsair H100) and re-pasted. Although I did use a considerable amount of thermal paste, but that surely shouldn't warrant the increase.

GPU Temp is 34'c which is consistent with the temps I had in the previous case.

A badly cooled case can add temps to a cpu. My old i7 920 ran 5c cooler in my lian li a70f. Put the system into my current shinobi xl. Am istant 5c increase in idle temps. A terrible case for air flow.

Would the case being aluminium help a lot? The Corsair 650D must have had less airflow than the one I have now, but it was very cold to touch cause it was all steel/ally I think.

Are you using fixed voltage? VID isnt indicative of the volts going through the chip.

Case as well as paste/mont variance can also both have a observable affect. Its why a good cooler review will use multiple mounts.

Best way to find out what your airflow / case temp is is with a cheap wire lead remote sensor thermometer.. Terrarium, automotive accessory or home indoor/outdoor, etc. Set the remote sensor about 3-5cm in front of your CPU cooler or GPU intake and see what you get. A couple c above room temp is normal.

As above, if you're using fixed voltage then that may be part of the reason.

The idle temps are always likely to change with ambient temperature too. Also, when you say you used a "considerable" amount of heatsink paste... that can make a difference :p.

How do you have your fans set up?

What do you call a considerable amount? Any more than a large grain of rice size will increase temps. ( Ask me how I know.... )
