Just been having a look at the Graphics card section of the site and cant believe the prices of some of the x1800 range! Its becoming very tempting to upgrade my current x800xl!

For example they have:-
Powercolor x1800xt for £240 + VAT
HIS x1800xt for £250 + VAT
HIS x1800xl for £180 + VAT

Now im sure when the xt's came out they were around £480 including VAT, thats a huge reduction.

Question is shall i hold off for a bit and see how the x1900 prices influence the x1800 range or take the plunge?

Might have to stick the x800xl on MM, must be worth £100!

X1800 range is a good buy, but ATI have already ceased production and ATI gave OcUK a load of money (rebates) so we can offer some good deals but only whilst stock last. X1800 XT is a great buy at the price and no doubt ATI will release a new product in that price segment in the future what it will be is unknown so if your looking to buy a card, good deals to be had. :)

P.S. X1800 prices will increase tomorrow (GO UP in price), think of this as one day special prior to X1900 launch. :)

how come x1800 prices will inrease?

Because ATI are not dropping prices, OcUK has dropped the prices because were kind but such prices are not sustainable and ATI have only given us so much money to play with. :)

so are you hinting that the reviews of the x1900 which a lot of ppl are waiting for will be bad enough that people wont see the reason to pay the extra over the x1800 and then choose the x1800xt but then the price will have gone up and we will all cry?

damn it

lol.. im gonna have to decide before tonight.

if i cant afford the x1900 i might of missed out on a heck of a deal for the x1800xt....

so i think i might just go with the x1800... as i said in another thread im only using 1280x1024 as i have a 17" monitor... so the extra money would be pointless as im wont be taking the x1900 to the extreme.

for me, and the sensible option would be the x1800xt, im just debating which one now though.... :p i.e. powercolor (bad history with them) or the his excalibur

Go for the cheapest as all X1800's are made by ATI. :)
The PowerColor is cheapest and comes with Pacific Fighters, so best value all round. :)

If you have the money then I would just go for the X1800XT tonight.

At 1280x1024 the X1900 wont be able to pull away much, and adding 4xAA and 16xAF will make the difference even less (as the X1900 wont be able to do these things much faster).

You need to think how long you will hold on to the card for. With present games none of them are so shader intensive that the X1900 will be able to show off in, and there wont be such games for quite some time. DX10 games is where we will see shaders really take over and texturing being used less. This is clearly shown by Nvidias model of having a more balanced card with high pixel shading and texturing and pixel fillrate.

In 2 years time the raw shader power might be more important than the raw texture and pixel fillrates but by than DX10 will be in full swing and so you would want to upgrade then. And think, the money saved will go a long way towards buying an upgrade in shorter time period. You are always better buying cheaper cards and upgrading them regularly than buying the best card there is and keeping it for 3 years.

EDIT: thats not to say the X1900 is not a great card, its just its a card for the futureand not the present.

Hi there

Well prices go back up tomorrow by approx £30 - £50 unless ATI give us some more money to play with, but saying that were very low on stock as well now.......

So buy tonight or first thing tomorrow as prices go back up tomorrow afternoon.

what would you guys advise for me playing at 1920x1200?

Thats a tougher question, because that is a very high res, a lot higher than 1280x1024- 1.75 times the pixel count. Extra shaders will make more of a difference, but again, mainly only in shader intensive games.

The usual questions, how long do you plan to keep the card for and what i your money situation like.

probably keep it for 12 months or so until dx10 games are coming out to play

edit: i can afford the x1900 but dont like to waste cash that could be saved towards something else if the performace increase isnt worth it

NVIDIA refuse to drop prices as currently all their stock is sold out and still selling so in their eyes no need for them to drop prices.......

Gibbo any chance you can help put me out of my misery - at 1920x1200 is the x1900xt worth waiting for (over the x1800xt)

a simple yes or no will do :)
