I bought the original GW and never really got into it, but then I don't think I gave it a fair chance.

As pretty much a noob to GW is factions going to be ok to start out a new char? If it is i'll pick up a copy later.

you know you want to get it ;)

personally i think that factions is a lot more noobie friendly, access to better armour and weapons is easier and you can get a highly skilled character fairly quickly.

The trick is to choose a profession that you enjoy, i decided that after playing with a monk for 4 months sitting behind everyone just healing, i'd choose a damage dealer, which is a lot more fun :D

Plus you can now change your secondary profession later in the game if you wish to.

If you do get it give me a shout if you need any help, oh and join the Godless ;)

It is nearly impossbile to find a decent team in Factions, presently 80% of chars are the 2 new classses (assians & ritualist). I gave up on the game after about a week of trying to do a mission.

For leveling up a char...

OMG... XP is given out like sweeties in Factions.

There are a high number of assassins who think they are tanks (NO!) so maybe building your char up in Factions, then going over to the Prophecies to actually team up etc would be good.

I just love how quickly you can lvl a char up!!

So probably a good thing to get you back into it, as you can take a char from scratch rather quickly, then use the lvl20 to do what you want in either campaign.

Also the armour is better, better access to better weapons quicker etc.

Ive been temped by Factions as well, but no next to nothing about Guildwars. What sets it apart from the other mmorpgs??

I've tried loads of these online rpgs, and always really want to get into one, but always just get fedup with grinding to a higher level. Im never seem to find all the crazy goings on that you read about in magazines and on websites (wars, marriages, parties etc...)

I generally don't notice grinding.

By the time you complete all the missions/quests... You are already lvl20.

Especially with factions.

It's more about your skills and how you use them.
8 at any one time, instead of WoW where you have all your skills all the time.

I started playing factions on Friday, i hadnt played Guild wars tho.

Its noob friendly i would say. It does however seem a bit boring so far tho. I played Friday and sunday then today for a few hours. My Char is lvl 13 so far, so you do lvl fast like the other guys are saying.

It deffo doesnt have the depth of a normal mmorpg.

How do I join the godless?

Personally i think the depth comes in time, each character has a potential skill bank of 150 skills, and you can only take 8 at a time, so it becomes a big question of suiting your skills to your party. I find that although i have preferences, if i'm with other monks i'll switch to a warrior orientated build and have a hack with my axe.

The big advantage that no one has mentioned is that its freeee ;) so don't expect WoW kind of depth, just enjoy it for what it is, because it does it very well.

A lot of people find it boring because they just use the computer controlled henchmen all the time. Find a good group and it'll open up the enjoyment no end.

I was just in Gamestation Preston where Factions is £29.99, absolutely ridiculous considering I got the original Guild Wars for £17.99. I bought FEAR and COD2 pre-owned for a total of £22 instead. :p

I should make them price match more often, it's a bit of a ripoff in there for new titles.

Hi there,

Couple of things, Gamestation didn't sell Prophecies for £17.99 at release and I got Factions for £17.99 elsewhere, If you're having a go at the shop...just don't buy it from there? Factions is equal to Prophecies in size and a standalone game if you want so It should be the same price as Prophecies IMO.

Although Factions levels you up very quickly I don't think it's as accesible to newcomers and would recomend that they play Prophecies first. You level up quickly because you need to. Enemies get tougher much quicker than in Prophecies, I think that Anet have done this because they know that most people will head over from Prophecies and want a challenge from the start (although the intro Island gives a false sense of security).

I have no idea why people feel the need to jump in bring up WoW in every Guild Wars thread that has ever been typed? It's not WoW..It's Guild Wars. It has depth in different areas. PvP can be a very tactical affair when you talk about 8 teamates with 150 skills each trying to pick 8 skills each that compliment each other, and then trying to coordinate them :D I'm sure WoW is excellent if that's what you want to play this thread is about GW.

The Godless are a great bunch and add to the game immensely (just don't tell them I said that) they aren't all rambling argumentative fools like me :D

Why so defensive? All I said was that Gamestation have overpriced this time, and it's true. If you notice, I followed your advice before you gave it, and bought F.E.A.R. and Call Of Duty 2 for £25 pre-owned instead. I will buy Guild Wars: Factions from a certain well-known, four-letter-word, games site everyone loves when it comes down in price. :)

Didn't mean to sound as aggressive as it came across, sorry about that :)

I don't really think it's overpriced though £29.99 for a full game. Aren't all new PC releases that price at GS? It's a standalone game as big as the first not just an expansion.

sheesh it really does huh, i've just got my lvl 15 rit out of the starter island and suddenly i'm in a world of pain, coming up against lvl24 mobs, totally unprepared for that.

Plus i found the weapons dealer there and suddenly the price of a weapon goes from 250G to 5K  i'm not managing too bad as the party number has a nice increase to 8 but i've had to go back to the starter island to get a few more levels under my belt.

Guild Wars was ok but I ended up getting bored of it because everyone I partied with wasm't any good. So I don't think I'll bother with fractions. It's so hard to find players to match my skill to party with. :D
