Not much known about Chris Nolans latest movie apart from the fact it's out next year, cost about $225 million to make, is “the length of three movies” and stars Kenneth Branagh, Robert Pattinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Caine and a few other quite decent stars. It's based in the world of international espionage and that's about the extent of what's known right now.

I've really enjoyed everything he's done to date despite the common criticism that most of his films are emotionless. On the flipside, there were moments in Interstellar that still reduce me to tears on repeat viewings but the soundtrack is largely to thank for that...same with Inception.

His weakest movie in my eyes is The Dark Knight Rises but it's fairly common knowledge now that his heart wasn't in it and he was simply fulfilling his contract with WB.

I'd love to say I will unlikely watch any trailers and simply watch it on release knowing as little as possible. However i'm so eager to see anything from the new film i'll probably leap on any trailer that comes out.

I really doubt it. I think there will be nods to Inception but there's no way the studio would let him make Inception 2 without labelling it as such. Everyone knows financially it's a much safer bet to make a sequel rather than something new.

Agreed, doubt its the case.

However its worth noting since the success of Dark Knight and Inception, Nolan has got a free pass and massive sway to do as he likes with WB.

Seriously? It's only two and half hours.

China gonna china :)

A few days ago came the report that China is planning to re-open movie theaters in low-risk areas according to the China Film Association. The July 20th reopening date comes with several health and safety measures, the most unique of which being movies released in China can’t run more than two hours in an effort to minimize the amount of time moviegoers are in close quarters.

Personally happy to wait for cinema, even if it took another year. Especially with new social distancing measures, went twice last week and was a pleasure.

This along with Dune are two films I want the cinema experience for.

why subscribe to netflix? how do they have a single customer? you can pirate everything as soon as it gets put on there.
oddly people still pay

However go on any torrent site just after a new netflix movie premieres, being downloaded 10's of thousands of times in the first few days. A lot of people will pay but don't underestimate just how prolific piracy still is.

There is quite a vocal poster on these very forums who is always going on about having great audio/visual kit (well, they've apparently got the best of everything but I digress), quite often dressing down other posters how their own stuff is better and others have bought wrong. However a few weeks back said poster posted information for software for ripping movies from usenet/torrents and having "your own netflix library".

It would be interesting to see the numbers from some straight to streaming releases during lockdown. I would expect the distributors to be making a hugely better margin on each sale vs. whatever they get from cinemas.

There has been a lot of noise around Universal and their pulling back on some cinema releases based on how well Trolls 2 did direct to On Demand. To the point a few big cinema chains made a point about not showing Universal movies going forward.

However I imagine Trolls 2 being an ideal lockdown movie being more for kids, I can't imagine some of the bigger releases would have fared as well.

@explicit4u I went to the cinema twice last week as showcase are showing lots of old movies at £5 a ticket. (Aliens and Jurassic Park) The screen itself is limited to two seats together, two seats empty. There was a one way system in place so when you left you didn't go past anyone on the way in.

Food/drink could be ordered before you went and it was pick up only as well as screens setup in from of concessions and ticket desk.

Based on that experience I'm more than happy to see this when it's out, as long as the cinema observe the same distancing I saw last week.

No nearby Imax unless I go into Birmingham but it's an already 2.5 hour movie and that adds another hour or more on with travel time.

We have Odeon in Coventry but higher prices than Showcase and more run down. I'm hoping Showcase has them up soon as I love the leather recliners.

Just got my Showcase email, taking bookings now.

I really want to watch this at a weekend but I just know the likes of Youtube is going to be littered with spoilers in video titles a day after this comes out, might be a Wednesday viewing on my jack jones.
