Tent experts please

Dear god! Some of these prices are silly! I'd suggest getting a decent'ish £50 tent from Millets, at the end of they day you're camping in England(I assume) not half way up Everest. As long as it's water proof you're good, a good sleeping bag will be a better investment.

You meant object ;)

You know what they say about assumptions.

When money is no object and you're going to be on the road for a while why bother with some basic crap from millets?

Where are you going and what bike are you taking out of interest?
I'm riding to Aus this year (was setting off end of march, but that's been postponed as some scrote has nicked my bike and insurance won't cover it:()

He never said money was no object. At the end of the day it's a tent, just some poles and some fabric. I understand that some are better than others, but there can't be THAT much room for improvement between a £50 and £500 tent.

High tech materials. I don't mind paying for something really clever. Carbon fibre poles sound great
This doesn't sound like he wants a cheap crap effort from a generic chain to me.

You would be very surprised.

One will keep you warm and dry in your back garden in the summer, the other will keep you warm and dry in gales halfway up a mountain. And it'll stay halfway up a mountain too, not flying off into the distance along with your spare pants...

PK!

I'd recommend the Vaude Taurus 2 - It's designed to be a possible 3 man tent and should give you the headroom you need.

Umm are you looking for the tent to be purely the place you sleep or are you wanting something big enough to sit in?

Also what kind of size/weight would be ok on a motorbike?

Having been camping in scotland in November while helping out on the KIMM, a £50 tent from millets might have lasted about 30 mins in the conditions we had that night. Same tent has also been used for camping in France on a big commercial camp site.
No good buying a good sleeping bag if the tent wont keep the rain out.

any high street store beginning with A#### £60-80 tent would do, i'd go for a 4 man tent with a door on the back & front

it's the uk, not the north pole, seriously no need to spend over £100, I had a £60 4man tent for 4 years, was fine for 4 whole summer holidays in a row -with pretty bad wind/rain on the pembrokeshire coast

the tent died when my mate did a powerslide through it in his ford escort -idiot

I'm looking for a really good 2 man tent to use on a motorcycle trip I'm planning this year. I haven't been camping for 10 years and need some advice. Here are the requirements.

1 - A largish 2 man size. I'm 6ft7in so need a bit more space and Mrs Spie is coming along.

2 - Lightweight. It's going on my bike so needs to be pretty light.

Mark - Whats the Bike that you'll be using for this trip? Also, whats your pannier/racking arrangement? Is the good woman on the back,or on her own bike?

Gelert Quick Pitch, end of.

Eek 6'7? jesus, scratch that then, they would suit up to about 6'3/6'4 comfortably.....Oztent do nice ones.....

I used to work for Millets (Blacks Leisure - The Outdoor Group) The biggest piece of advice i can give is -

If the label says Eurohike, Peter Storm, Blacks, Storm Shield or any of the other ""Unique own brands""" then avoid it like the plague.

If i had the money Id probably buy one of The North Face tents, Coleman (although hard to source in the UK for a good one) or Tera Nova. Avoid Vaude, some of the deisgns arent great. Vango are also quality tents, but not many travel styles.

I'd seriously recommend one of these but they're not cheap! The website doesn't do them justice but they are very well engineered and will take anything you throw at them for very little weight. They're more aimed at explorers but if ever there was tent p*rn this would be it.
