Tenth Dimension

Ooooookay...

My mind is now rather engaged, slightly confused, and definately twisted, although i'm not sure in which dimension!

Ok, 2 minutes in and I'm already confused. Does anyone actually fully understand this?

Actually, after watching it for a 2nd time, its fully comprehendible. I'd like to know more about the possbilities for "folding" between dimensions though.

Wouldn't it require practically infinite amounts of energy to accomplish? I'm not very good with this sort of stuff but do find it interesting :) I suppose the folding thing is akin to what they did in Event Horizon :)

Unfortunately this is a far cry from what contemporary physics has to say on the issue :)

Tell that to the thousands of string theorists around the world :p

Whatever way you look at it, any physicist will admit that the two pillars of modern physics (General relativity and Quantum mechanics) are mutually incompatible. There are many models being developed to unify the two theories, and the vast majority rely on higher-dimensional interaction.

That's a great site, I remember it being posted ages ago, very interesting and I can just about get my head around it, I have no idea if any of it's possible though! Still it's food for thought.

The guy's voice is annoying though.

Well, for a start, this website asserts that the tenth dimension is the final dimension, and that no more are possible after this. Some branches of string theory say otherwise (they require either 11 or 26 dimensions).

I'm by no means an expert, but the visualisation of ten dimensions described on the website has nothing to do with string theory.

Well, I didn't watch the clip past the first 30s :p

But certainly you are correct. M-theory (which attempts to unify the various superstring theories into a single concept) generally takes place in 11 dimensions.

So this theory relies in the possibility that our universe is not the only one?

Or, when we progress beyond the '7th dimension' is that taking into account the possibility that our universe is made from the matter of the previous universe and thus our universe will make up the next?

Basically is this model supposed to allow the possibility of an infinate cycle of universes or is it supposed to be suggesting that an infinate number of alternate universes exist in parallel to our own?

It seems to me both are supposistions and the model really stops at the 7th level with the rest being purely theoretical and likely wholly unprovable in any real term?

Well at the end of the video it states that very thing, and that it's more to provoke your mind to understanding these type of things.
