Good choice, I have a Vaude mark II that's about 10 years old now and it's bombproof, I can't fault it in any way, it's been with me to Scotland, Snowdonia, Dartmoor more times than I can remember and the French Alps multiple times. It's showing no sign of giving up and will be going with me on a week long canoe trip this summer :)
 
Pop-ups - will withstand bad weather as they are ergonomically shaped and of uncomplicated design. Space isn't fantastic for socialising or living. Just for sleeping. In my experience, of course.
All Vango tents are good - both single skin and double skin will keep the rain out, but double skin won't suffer from condensation and are more likely to keep bugs out. I have a Vango Zetes, I think they're still around - it's brilliant.
 
Just thought I would give you guys an update... I ended up buying the Vango Beta 450 for around £80 and I tried it out in my garden last weekend. It is bigger than I expected and not too difficult to put up. I am glad I bought one rather than hiring one.

I am off to Hidden Valley Park in North Devon this Friday... can't wait :)
