Terminating external cat6

So I've just run external cat6 around the house from the router to the sky box.

I can't quite get the rj45s to terminate properly, it's not as easy as cat5.

I strip the cable back, and cut the centre plastic divider away, but can't get the strands aligned straight and in order...

Any tips?

No amount if googling has helped!

Are you using plugs that use a loading bar?

I've got a couple of external network cables. I sank backing boxes at both ends and fitted faceplates.

No, I'm using standard single piece RJ45.

If the description is to be believed they look fine. It actually states they're designed for sold core and stranded cable with is nice.

If I was you id put wall sockets on both ends, makes it much easier to wire up.

I don't know if its just me but I find it really hard getting the plugs to connect correctly and end up doing each one 4 or 5 times before I get a decent connection.

When you strip the cable back you want about an inch of wire. Then get them in the right order and get them packed together nice and closely, bending them etc as needed.

Then cut the wires back so they are the right length to slide into the connector, make sure you hold them tight and they will slide straight in first time.

It can be fiddly at first but when youve done a few of them its a peice of cake.

Thanks guys, I think the two part rj45 will make it a lot easier. As to get them in the right order, you need to bend them around each other.

Use wall sockets dood. Looks infinitely cleaner and so much easier to use a punchdown tool than trying to ram cables home into a jack
