Terra Nova

Can't say I was too surprised considering it took a gold mine to fund.

That and there was far too many filler eps right at the very start of series, you can't do that kinda thing when your launching a whole new tv show, neither the audience or the tv execs will wear it for long.

SGU Amazing... what?

It had terrible camera movements, boring episodes, Eastenders acting and I never felt for ANY of the characters. Being a massive fan of stargate with every episode on dvd from SG1 to Atlantis, it should never been called Stargate at all. The ONLY episode i enjoyed was the episode they couldn't leave that planet and then got eaten by those bugs :p

did you watch the last half of series 2?

We're going to have to agree to disagree here...

SGU had depth and complexity... Contrast this to SG1 and Atlantis, where things were (for the most part) black and white. With SGU everything is ten shades of grey.

The characters had depth and grit, rather than being moulded to fit a purpose; e.g. Sam Carter is "smart", and is there to 'figure out that alien science' when needed. Teal'c is brave. Jackson provides the philosophical perspective. O'Neil provides the comic relief. All of them are loyal and overly-willing to self-sacrifice. Each character fulfils a pre-defined purpose and rarely strays outside that. There is no real development, and their reactions to any given circumstance are pretty predictable.

Contrast that with SGU where each character has layers, flaws, and a very human reaction to the quite miserable situation they're in.

As for acting... Eastenders quality?! I can't agree here! Compare the quality of the cast in SGU to that in SG1... McGuyver delivering his one-line quips, Teal'c raising his eyebrow - moving stuff! The cast of SGU are helped immensely by the quality of the writing, but for me you really can't compare the two shows in this regard.

SG1 and Atlantis were entertaining shows, with a weak season-arc story, and a lot of "monster of the week" / "moral dilemma of the week" / "save-the-day at the last second" type plot devices, using technological McGuffins to fill in the holes. In contrast, SGU had depth and quality with a cast and writing to back it up. It didn't have the action of SG1 or Atlantis, but for me it more than made up for that in other areas.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed SG1 and Atlantis. But in my eyes they can't hold a candle to SGU for quality. RIP SGU.

Firefly
Flashforward
Surface
The Event
Invasion
SGU
Terra Nova

Of which only two were worth saving :p

TVLine's Renew Scorecard has changed for Fringe: A long-shot. Could go either way. A safe bet.

No reason why he changed it to A Safe Bet, god help him if it doesn't work out but I hope it is renewed!

I think we'll get a half season, Fox have stuck with it this long it would be madness chopping it on the cusp of the 100 episode mark, which I think is syndication point for shows over in America.

With regards to the next big thing in Sci-Fi mentioned earlier I believe it'll be something created on the Internet, free from the meddling of networks. That or HBO will finally decide to do an all out Sci-fi space show and hire Peter F. Hamilton as the script writer.

Just saying.

Hot hot hot :D

So TN got canceld?...that sucks.

How did it have such a huge budget??? looked pretty "cheap" to me, still good though just wouldn't expect it to be up there with lost and all that.

TN sucked, its biggest problem, beyond sucking in general was a truly awful cast, all the kids, awful, lead, awful, lead's wife, super awful, lead's wife ex.... super truly shocktastically awful, the Beard, surprisingly(after avatard) was probably the best actual actor in it.

The episodes were filler guff, the opening was awful which doesn't always kill a show but failed to set the scene.

There needed to be a really painfully bad "world" they were moving too, not ikea stylie houses with every amenity, and a REAL reason to subject yourself to such a dangerous place, they failed to do that on both counts. The "old" world stopped you having 3 kids and showed zero sign of being "that" close to the edge. ZOMG you die because of lack of oxygen outside, yet he lived fine in jail for how long just coughing a bit? Everyone worked, everyone had jobs, everyone was alive and despite "lack of resources" people were allowed 2 kids already?

It needed to ignore all the kid crap, not be a family friendly show and be darker, really dark, like humanity on the brink. They probably should have had a fairly safe "base camp" and focus the show on some new camp being built, that way you have "kids and population growing" as they needed, but 90% of the show is not built around the kids or a safe easy camp but trying to build a new world in a dangerous location.

Basically they had an idea that could have been edgey, lots of danger, lots of stuff, and they made it tame and awful.

It would have been interesting if it had been set around the 1st pilgrimage rather than arriving with 95% of the nasty/dangerous stuff already done.

Each new season could have started with a new Pilgrimage arriving which could have allowed for the arrival of the Sixers (probably done on the 3rd trip/season) to be a new struggle after finally getting everything safe by the end of the 2nd season.

I think that would have been a lot more entertaining. For a group of people to arrive in an unknown world and have to set up camp would have been more entertaining than watching a family arrive and their house is more advanced than most people today.

Thought it was ok, didnt expect a second series as unless it's an instant massive hit then FOX will just can it until they find a new Simpsons that will pull in the advertising revenue.

firefly, surface, invasion, sgu were good shows imo.

I rather enjoyed The Event too, I know it could be a bit crap at times but it was massively better than Flash Forward at least.

SGU was great too, a refreshing change from the normal Stargate format and far better than Atlantis ever was.
