Unless the apartment's he lives in has a communications center.
Then all the lines line with feed from that to each apartment with one main trunk in to the communications center.
Sky have admitted the lines pants and are sending out an enginneer which is going to fit a proper test socket too! on Thursday. Hopefully this sorts it.
BT came today, proper nice guy apart from having a terrible week
Fitted me a master socket which i havent seen before, now i dont need to use a microfilter! and changed the sockets around so the master is now in my comp room!
Found a fault and sorted it exchange side, came back after a hour and asked if i had a key for the comms cupboard. DOH. Just my luck the landlord is abroad until 4th March .
So the BT engineer came for the 2nd time. Nice guy even offered him a egg sandwich - felt rude not too.
So the reason why i couldnt find the master socket in the apartment was because... I didnt have one... Its actually located under the stairs with the other apartments. Thats right the cleaners or any passer by who knew the tester sockets was their could plug a phone in and call anyone from our numbers. The engineer laughed that how bad this was and crimped the testing sockets etc.
This didnt stop there. Upon crimping the wires it turns out the builder or whoever wired the property decided to cut costs (im guessing) and use tin alarm cable to join the master socket under the stairs to my main sockets 4 floors up. Then once inside the sockets have been bodged on. Some had bent screws in. Others had different screws in. So we took them all off and replaced. Then it turns out each socket was wired together, although like a blind person had done it. So the landing went to the bedroom, back past the landing to the living room, then this spliced onto the main socket back to the landing. All with alarm cable...then poining to the sockets they used these funky plugs with heat shrink around them. Looked awful.
So he decided because he cant give me decent cable to crimp every port but the new master he installed upstairs. Now im getting 10-12mb Guess im lucky in this situation. Although it does drop out like 1-4 times a day. Better than nothing at all i guess.
