Terror Plot Foiled

Hopefully the "intelligence" they used on this occasion is better than on all the other occasions where they got it miserably wrong.

Lucky chap - Cuba is awesome. I want to go back there sometime....

I hope he isn't delayed by all this pathetic paper shuffling.

Me neither, it's his first 'real' holiday, 2 weeks in cuba with his girlfriend paid for by her parents :o

it was an operation lasting a couple of months according to the bbc. it's chaos at all the airports (for good reason i suppose) but i don't think it's going to be a permanent thing.

It's just no feasible for it to be. It will not work. And frankly if you have to check in electronic goods that you take on the plane the insurance companies and claims will go through the roof. My laptop is only worth £500 now, but the data on it is worth 5 figures... I've told them that before when they tried to get me to check it in - and they quickly forgot about asking me to check it in. ;) Fortunately I have enough clout not to get too badly affected by these things, but there's only so much one can do against bureaucracy.

Aww - sounds great! :)

I sometimes forget how lucky I am going away on numerous holidays a year :o

John Reid and the Transport Secuterys video statment looked pre recorded and obviously all the airports must have been given prior warning. I think they have known about this for a while.

It's a good job the Terrorists are stupid enough to try and do a big multiple plane plot, if they kept it really small ala 7/7 they might have got away with it.

Patheitc paper shuffling   people were trying to blow up planes, and thousands of people with explosives kept in hand lugauge. How should the authorites act? Whats better authorities setting up security and causing delays or run an increased risk of planes getting blown out of the sky?

*Just heard on the radio there were 12 planes targetted*

If that's true it's crazy if these people had half a brain they would have kept it much smaller. I mean 20 people involved... your going to get noticed by the security services. If they had gone for 2 or 3 planes could have been a different story.

I guess they are all trying to get one over on eachother with 9/11 the benchmark.

Would appear that the explosives were "liquid".

US Homeland Security has just banned passengers from carrying any form of liquid on all flights from U.S. airports.

It's just uncanny that that this breaks the day after Phoney Blair embaresses the country yet again by getting the UK kicked out of the Middle East ceasfire negotiations and the same day a major all party commity report on the state of the armed forces in Iraq is released.

Afraid our secret services have lost all credibility for me and this just seems all to convenient. Haven't got a good day to bury bad news? well invent one then.

I'm happy to be prooved wrong, but lets see how many of the 18-20 (depending on which news report you believe  ) who have been arrested are released with out charge this time.

You know far too much to not be a terrorist! TERRORIST.

Seriously though I need peoples words of comfort. My family is on holiday at the moment in Lanzerote (sp?). They are meant to be flying home to Manchester Airport tonight. Is it likely their flight will be affected or is this thing just affecting flights leaving the UK?

I want my mummy home :(

I think you will be happy, I have a feeling this time it's different from the usual knocking a couple of doors in and searching flats. They have specifically told us the plot and the government respose seems calm and organised.

well I`m very anxious now about trip to states in Oct, I have no faith at all in 'intelligence' and/or the competence of the operation that is meant to screen everything.

There is also a tendency for the authorities to trumpet how efficient their intelligence etc is/was

Don't belive it for a moment, it is all part of the government's plan to control every aspect of our lives. We have all just witnessed them crank it up another notch and, sadly, I doubt they will ever crank it down again.

Just had a breaking news alert from the beeb stating all planes bound for heathrow that ARE NOT in the air will not be landing at Heathrow.

Yep that's one bonus of living under a constant threat, and history shows governments will use any opertunity to grab more power.
