Tesco in crisis

Our local store (closest local as there are so many!) had a 6 Million pound refit this year and it is quieter than ever. Staff have told me it is grim!

I did my bit to help and bought my lunch from Tesco this morning, so they're £2.85 better off today thanks to me :)

I had a text from head office this morning about this, will see what has to be said tonight when i go in :)

Been there 17 years and thought my job was safe lol

My Local Tesco Extra Had a refit and was as busy as ever. Selling more than ever, branching out into more diverse areas like clothing, home wares, electrical goods.

They might have overstretched themselves putting local stores EVERY FREAKING WHERE in the past year or 2.

Their food is rubbish.
Their prices and deals are nothing more than scams to lure in the stupid/old.
The staff are never there when you need them.
The management/senior execs (for the last 10-15 years) think they are the kings of the high-street / retail and were arrogant/brash.

The sooner they fall into insignificance the better. They offer nothing to the average shopper and have continued to up their prices when the average person has had less income to spend on essentials.

What more can I say.

Ours had the same and is still grotty. We only use it as a last resort.

Good news.

A bit of karma for the local shop keepers livelihoods these buggers have ruined. Tesco basically own Chesterfield, are council drop onto their knees for them.

They can't compete. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they recover somewhat but I doubt they'll be the big force they once were.

As do most councils.

Tesco said they were building another superstore in our city, so the council said they needed to contribute to a road expansion / new roundabouts (to cope with the traffic) in the vicinity.

Tesco at first agreed - so the council started work on a large section of roads leading into the proposed site.

Then Tesco pulled out (left the site a mess) and the council had a half finished section of roads which wasn't needed and doesn't work for the traffic flows.

Not really.

Just don't get me started on what they have done to the British farming industry and the way it's been squeezed over the last 20 years.

;)

They are all guilty of that and we are guilty by shopping with them by proxy.
If they actually go bankrupt thats a huge problem for 10,000s of people losing their jobs, associated farmers will go bankrupt. Pension and Investments will be hit hard.

It wouldn't surprise me if all the major supermarkets are fiddling their books to some extent.

Smaller shops "butchers / green grocers" can still exist if they offer a quality or better value, which really people only care about the cost, like they always did. Fact is not many people want to pay for it.

In Reading, they have just been opening store after store. We have ten Tesco Express stores within 4 miles of each other and two big ones. They recently opened one which is within half a mile of another one. Madness.
