Tesco in crisis

Tesco is expensive, morrisons has a lack of health food/gluten free options, Sainsbury's also expensive but not as bad as Tesco

Iceland do some fantastic deals but no gluten free/health options

Gluten free options really are quite limited, Tesco are improving but Sainsburies and Asda seem to be the best at the moment.

It's so damn expensive though :(

That being said, Lidl are having a big GF push this week

So Tesco are to close 43 stores with the potential loss of 2000 jobs. What surprises me in that list, and I'm glad for the people involved, is one of the 2 big stores in my small town, you can walk across it in 30 mins, isn't on the list for closure. Obviously the 2 stores can be supported here.

Ours is one of them. Slap bang in the middle of a town center which is already struggling. Nail in the coffin.

Christ on a bike! Pre-tax loss of £5bn and they think that's a conservative number :eek:

What a pickle they have themselves in! Only yesterday I read Disney's shares rocketed $2bn from just a trailer!

"One adviser to Tesco said the retailer was likely to report at least £6bn in writedowns related to property valuations, inventory and other fixed-asset impairments, with the company expected to outline its plans to plug a multi-billion pound pension scheme deficit."

So aside from the pension the rest is in non cash adjustments to the balance sheet.

tesco opened a new store down the road from me just outside the city centre, bet they closed some of the others around the city at the same time though :S

Bread rolls have been £1 a dozen for years. This weekend I went to tesco and they were 80p for a six pack, three for the price of two.

I'm livid.

If I'm being completely honest, out of the bigger super stores in my area (as in the full size supermarkets), Tesco Extra is the best.

Sainsburys is ok for certain things, but in general Tesco have a wider selection and prices seem to be lower.

Asda is just a grim place, with generally poorer quality foods with not much of a difference in price.

Morrisons, I have no idea about.

Waitrose is a nice place, but a rip off.

Not good news and I empathise in advance for the staff that will most likely be going. I suppose if you worked for Tescos a few years ago you'd think it a very stable job.

Aldi and Lidl for the win with M&S Food for treats!
