Tesco Online Shopping

Does anyone here use this service and find that they have really short dated items (mainly bread/cakes), just asking as I've just had my first ever online shop delivered and theres loads with 2/3 days. They've refunded it back but just wondering is this likely to happen again is it the norm?

Also how do the ASDA and Sainsburys service compare as might try one of them?
 
Use Tesco regularly and have no problem with short dated stuff

Have used Asda and while they seem to offer more of their products online you end up with loads more missing items and substitutions

No satsumas so these were substited with ............................ a cucumber

And when I intended to order 10 bananas , I didn't realise that one unit was a Kilo, no one at Tesco thought to ask me if I actually wanted 4 carrier bags full of them :p

Thats what the lass on the phone said but then again it seems a "nice gesture" however that means I have to go out shopping so i might as well do it myself :(

After all theres no way my lads (and me) can eat 24 crumpets in 2 days (and not feel ill) !
 
Everytime my wife does the shopping online, they ALWAYS managed to bring 5+ items on the list which we didnt want as they were out of stock...example, she ordered some women's body spray, and they were out of the one they wanted, so instead of finding a different type, they brough men's spray. thats just one thing they mess up.....i prefer to drag the kids round Tesco kicking and screaming now than shop online

Freeze a pack :)
 
Always found we'd get delivered rubbish fruit and veg from online orders. So we just stick to ordering heavy stuff like beers, tins of beans etc and go out and get fresh stuff personally.

Aye I have done that but its more hastle than just getting one with a longer date

Think i'll just get the misses to make her order online but then print the basket out and i'll start getting it at 8am one morning once a week

think it will be the easier way in the long run :(

They only take a few hours to defrost or leave them out overnight :)

I usually get all the heavy stuff and drinks etc online but pop out during the day for the fresh food and meat. I'm trying out organic veg boxes at the moment, just got one today and it looks really good :)

Given there's 4 lads in the house, we tend to order in a crap-load of tins, jars and beers, i.e. 20 tins of tesco value chopped tomatoes (about £3 :p), 6 cases of beers.

Then for fresh bits and pieces will pick them up on the way home from work every few days or so. Job done!
 
I'm not sure if this is the case everywhere but if we order from Tesco here, they collect the items from the shop floor rather than a warehouse. Because of the way Tesco rotate their stock it means that you're far more likely to get older goods than if you went round yourself and checked the dates.

I prefer to buy food as and when I need it now, that way I waste less and can get fresher food from the local butcher etc. For beer and other stuff like that there is a Cash and Carry next to work which is far cheaper than the supermarkets anyway.

Ocado is the only one that has a dedicated warehouse for online shopping afaik.

True sometimes

However one example that i remember a few weeks ago, wife picked up croissants i had a look next day date, looked at back of shelf they had another 4 days on
 
I was going to do an online tesco shop last week. They didnt do same day delivery so i didnt go through with it. Good job i didnt because i found loads of good offers in somerfield like a pack of frozen chicken breasts (about 600g) for £2.50 that were going out of date the day after.

Doesnt bother me, i'll just freeze them and eat individually when needed.
